Up here in Canada (well, at least the Toronto region) there are no GameStops at all. Its only EB Games. I've got 3 in my city. I heard a few years back this was because of a naming/trademark issue (there was at least one idependant that called itself GameStop, could have been a small chain) but I never got that confirmed.
In any case, I'm glad our EB Games remain so, as they still operate relatively decently, as in, hiring good staff, caring some good selection, working with you rather well if there are problems, etc.
Why hasn't EBGames switched over to Gamestop?
Re: Why hasn't EBGames switched over to Gamestop?
We have a small mall in the town i work in that has an EBGames and Gamestop on different ends of the mall
Re: Why hasn't EBGames switched over to Gamestop?
I also live in the Greater Toronto Area (just a bit out of town though) and the mall nearby has both an EB Games and a GameStop store inside. It's not that bad to have two - sometimes the stock levels are different, and when there is a sale it doubles the chances you'll find what you wanted.
Not sure what the guy above is talking about. While there are plenty of EB Games remaining in the Toronto area, there are at least a few GameStop stores as well.

Where I live, all the EB games are Gamestops now.

Simple, the cheaper leases under the older name haven't all expired.
Some stores were leased for as long as 15 years so there will still be quite a few floating around for a bit.
There are even still some Software Etc..'s, Old-school Electronics Boutiques (Only one left in the US as of last year), Babbages and one or two Funcolands lying around along with some EBXs and EB Worlds. EB Games is simply the most common as that's when EB experienced it's most rapid period of expansion.

@ejamer
Notice I said Toronto region, aka the GTA. Not Toronto itself. I've not seen a single GameStop outside of Toronto (though all of them are labeled GameStop on the store locater). I'm on the eastern side though (Pickering), and I really never have a need to go to the western side, so it could be different over there.
Which mall are you reffering too, also, when you say you are just out of town, do you mean just in a different borough, or a different city.
All I know is there are no GameStops by me at all. I always assumed there was a few in the downtown, but I never actually checked.

There are no Gamestops in Canada. All we have is EB Games. There might be a few somewhere but as far as I know there aren't any.

I remember the EB Games there! That's where I got Rainbow Six for N64 when I was eight.Czernobog wrote: The big Woodfield mall in Schaumburg IL had an EB and Gamestop in it at the same time iirc. It might still but I'm pretty sure they closed one. I always just chalked that up to the mall being rather large but still didn't quite understand. Although I know many places around here where Gamestops are right outside of malls which have Gamestops in them. I've always wondered why they didn't just go for a couple big Gamestops around here rather then a whole bunch of tiny ones.
There was actually an EB Games and a GameStop built within a block of each other in the town next to mine a while back. Now there's two GameStops within a block of each other.
Ah well, still better than the two Blockbusters across the street from each other. Too bad it was the bigger one that had to shut down.

I was waiting for you to chime in on this thread. Thanks for the explanation. Also, thanks for the bits of trivia.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Simple, the cheaper leases under the older name haven't all expired.
