I just got a SCD off ebay, and I would like some info. First I'd like to know is what is a good review site for SCD, if anybody knows of one. Gamefaqs doesn't have very many reviews for most of the games, and I don't know of anywere else to look.
Also, since the SCD was untested, therefore as-is, could someone reccomend me a good troubleshooting or repair site? I've never had one of these before, and I don't know which repair guides are actually any good.
Any help is appreciated, and sorry if this topic has been posted before. If it has, feel free to direct me to the old thread.

Have you tried Sega-16.com for game reviews? They have a section in their forums dedicated to reviews. Not sure how many Sega CD reviews there are, but it's worth a shot!
Re: Sega CD information, please
Yeah there are plenty of reviews for SegaCD games at sega-16, http://www.videogamecritic.net/ has quite a few as well although the reviews are a bit short.
Is it a model 1 or model 2? model 2 is more reliable but model 1 looks so much better
I love my MegaCD

Re: Sega CD information, please
One thing I would do first is clean all of the Genesis-to-SCD contacts. My Sega CD stopped booting awhile back and I solved it via a thorough cleaning.BoringSupreez wrote:Also, since the SCD was untested, therefore as-is, could someone reccomend me a good troubleshooting or repair site? All right, I'll try Sega-16, and read through the two recommended threads.
It's a model two. I would have preferred a model 1 myself, but it wasn't an option.Curlypaul wrote:Is it a model 1 or model 2? model 2 is more reliable but model 1 looks so much better

Well at least you'll have no issues with the delicate cd tray, which is a major problem with the model 1s

Everybody was really helpful in my troubles with my model 2. Link:

and there's another link within that thread to another scd thread if I remember correctly.
If you have problems you should be able to find general answers to your questions within those links. And I'm sure everyone'll be glad to help with any issues that you may run into. Enjoy some Sega CD!

Re: Sega CD information, please
I tinkered around with a model 1 once, they are a PITA. Most of them don't work from what I understand.
In addition to cleaning the contacts, I would be sure to clean the laser lens with wither a CD laser lens cleaner, if it will read discs out of the box, or a q-tip and alcohol very gently if its unable to read discs out of the box. Unfortunately, if its untested from eBay that probably means it doesn't work, and they actually did test it. If you look on eBay you'll notice that most Sega CDs are listed at either working or untested, and the ones that are untested command a higher price than the ones than are listed specifically as broken. I know of two eBay sellers in particular that sell a lot of retro stuff on eBay that specifically list broken Sega CDs as untested.
