Those cabs all look fantastic compared to some I've seen for sale, still in use somewhere, or being sold empty for people to make MAME cabs out of.

Don't you just love Corporate America?BurningDoom wrote:This reminds me of working a Blockbuster Video as a teenager. I was working there when they were switching over from VHS to DVD. They would literally have us break the VHSs in half then throw them away. We were supposed to break them because they said they didn't want people stealing them...SO WHAT! They were throwing them away, who cares if someone wanted them. And we would also get in trouble if we took them ourselves.
Those guys are so full of shit, "We couldn't do anything with these, they were just junk." Just look at the PCBs on the ground, there's assloads of capacitors, wiring, etc. that you could've used for future repairs. That is, if you even do repairs. Someone more experienced in electronics could spot many more things that could've been salvaged. Also, the whole "You think that's bad, look at these guys! Not so angry at us, now are ya?" What the hell? That's like if I was caught killing a Catholic man I said, "It's not so bad, look at what that Hitler guy did to the Jews!"
Heh, I found this gem on their site:
Why is special order in quotation marks?IF YOU DON’T SEE THE GAME YOU WANT BELOW, WE CAN “SPECIAL ORDER” IT FOR YOU!

I used to work at Toys R Us and I remember we destroyed and threw away a bunch of video game guide books because they didn't sell. I managed to keep a Viewtiful Joe 2 guide for myself but it's cover was already ripped off.

Come to Huddersfield. We have a Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition cab in Vox, The Addams Family pinball machine at the Rat & Ratchet and Indiana Jones pinball machine at Zephyr. There's probably more that I have yet to discover. Plus the pub that I work at might be getting Attack From Mars (fingers crossed!).GigaPepsiMan wrote:It's more painful to watch when you live in the UK because arcade cabs and pinball machines are almost non existant.fvgazi wrote:Disgusting. Those cabs could've easily been salvaged or stripped to build MAME cabs, arcade sticks, or housed other games. It's going to be more work just to clean all of that up.
I love living in America - where we can waste things.
That's a pitiful selection I know, but it's better than nothing. Or those fucking quiz boxes.

Does "Special Order" mean... ahem... obtain through "legal" measures?
Re: Guys destroy bunch of arcade cabs.
It makes me sad and angry at the same time seeing these things destroyed. I know people that can't afford a cab, even if it's just the shell, that would have loved to have one of those. I wish people would think about other people in the world that have nothing before destroying something.
Thanks everyone...

You know that's a good point. I'm sure they could've fixed some of those pinball machines (I mean come on it's a pinball game). They could've put them up in a homeless shelter or something and fix it to where it doesn't cost anything to play.Gnashvar wrote:It makes me sad and angry at the same time seeing these things destroyed. Put these up for parts in a charity auction maybe? They could've done so much with them and they just destroyed everything.

I think the video is pretty distasteful, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that destroying the machines makes sense.Opa Opa wrote:You know that's a good point. As I mentioned before, animal shelters have to put unwanted dogs and cats to sleep all the time because they do not have unlimited resources. They state in the description that they tried to give some machines away, and they just sat there for weeks. These folks run a business and need to support their families. They don't have unlimited storage space. Space in their warehouse is limited and valuable! It doesn't make sense to keep around machines that will cost more to repair than they'll be able to get, especially when they can acquire machines they can actually sell for a profit. Keep in mind, this is a business, and labor is not free. I'm sure if any of you were willing to drive to Philadelphia, haul off some of these machines, and take over the responsibility of storing them yourselves, you could have.
I think folks are grossly overestimating the local market for empty arcade cabinets and broken pinball machines. Most people don't want those things. I can sit here and say I'd love to have one, and it would be true. But I honestly wouldn't take one even if I was offered it for free because I simply don't have room for either right now, nor would it be practical for me to take up the burden of arcade machine ownership right now.
