All the Hard-Offs I went to in Kansai were located next to giant porn shops. The marketing would be perfect if it made sense in Japanese.

Sometimes there is. I've seen quite a few MDs at some of the Hard-Offs I've been to.

MD players (whether part of a CD player, discman type, etc.) are very common to find used.

My local Hard-Offs are nowhere as well stocked as yours. I have to dig through bins and stacks of miscellaneous boxes to get what I want.

Have any of your regular Hard-Off visitors noticed that all -Off brand retailers smell generally the same? Its kind of gross but the shock of the musty smell only lasts a moment or so once you're inside.

I've been lucky in both places I've lived in Japan that all the hard-offs seem to be well stocked on well, everything (at least gaming etc stuff).

I think it's used goods + tobacco + that funky shrink-wrap burned smell.

There were at least 8 Hard Offs in my area. Some sucked, some were goldmines. I am just glad they changed the FUCKING JINGLE. That shit was so annoying after the first 2 minutes of being in the store. They replaced it with a less-annoying jingle.

I know what you mean, but GARAGE OFF always smelled like heaven. I love the smell of old car parts. It's probably really unhealthy, but it's still an aphrodisiac.

Ever bump into MD/CD combo car head units?

I'm brainstorming ways to have a really unique stereo setup in my car. It turns out Pioneer still makes Cassette player/CD changer combo decks for the US market, but it's always fun to bounce off ideas.

Anyhow, I seriously hope I take a trip to Japan sometime soon. Looking at Hard-Off's/Book-Off's and all the other Off's always has me drooling, there's too much awesome stuff!

Damn you Japan and your waste not want not philosophy.....

Yeah, there are a lot of MD/CD head units, a lot of them factory. The only problem is that Japanese FM radios won't pick up American FM signals. If you don't care, then get one.
