This is one way I have made money. Whether legit or not its up to you. LEGAL GRAY AREA HERE
this does require some time and definitely lots of patience. So if you are a thrifty shopper, or looking out to make some good(?) money then this is your chance!
Try to find a way to get CD's and DVD's at the lowest possible price (were talking cents here) and take them to FYE or any other store that takes trade-ins.
Stores like this take your (using the term loosely here) stuff and either give you store credit or cash. This is kinda like gamestops way, but with music and movies. Dont give up on me now! heres where the money gets made.
Where I live there is a fleamarket that is there once a week. When I go to it, I go when everyone is leaving, pretty much when the fleamarket closes. In this place when its time to go, sellers put their merchandise at the most awesome prices. They will say "fill a bag for $___ dollars. It may be one, two or three. Always go for the lowest price, so check your local fleamarket and see if they do something similar to this.
Check out the locale and see if they have good merchandise, if it does, then fill the bag with all the media you can find! But before you do that, check out the condition of the discs. Trade-in Retailers do not take scratched or damaged discs! Music cds must be complete with box and insert. DVD's must be with its case and cover. In one plastic bag you can fill lots of discs. You can fill lots of bags this way so get to it!
make sure the item has a barcode on it! Many stores dont take them at all if there is no way for them to scan the merchandise.
Once you have finished this, take it home and check your haul. There may be good music or movies so keep some for yourself, you did get it cheap! Sort all your stuff one more time and then take it to your local store that takes trade-ins.
this is the most difficult part.
Take them to the store and present them to the teller. Tell them you want to make a trade in. They may take your ID and phone number so go ahead and give it to them. Depending on the state that you live in, there may be an age limit for this. So if you're a teen, get your parents help.
Walk into the store with some of your haul, not too much tho, you dont want to look desperate! This will take mulitple trips over a few days. Imagine the face of a worker that has to scan and review 100 discs!
The teller there will start scanning each item and give you that stores trade-in value. Prices vary a lot, so some discs may be worth $0.50 up to $6.00+ Sometimes, There is some rarer stuff thats worth a good chunk of change. Once you're done,The teller will offer you either cash or store credit. So its up to you whether you take store credit or cash. I personally take store credit, cause the store may give you a bonus, and some do sell games and consoles
but here's the difficult part, The store doesn't take all the Discs you give them. You will definitely have some left over.
but what they do take will make you a profit. So basically you took a bag of media with lets say 30 music cds. You paid less than $3.00 for it, (cause you still have more at home). But the store only took 11 cds. The rest they didn't want. You then get $12.00 cash or $15.00 store credit. So do the math and see that you made some good money! Repeat as necessary.
Doing this over multiple weeks (or possibly months) can get you into the $100 plus range.
So A $15 dollar overall investment may earn you $70+ dollars. Here are some pro's and con's:
+ You are already out there searching for games, so you may as well find cds
+ There are thousands of Discs out there so you will never run out.
+ Stores take cds so they can resell them for a profit and you make a profit too
- This takes a LOOOONG time before you see some benefits
- You will definitely have leftover stuff
- If you take gift cards, expect to have a lot of them, so dont lose them
I have been doing this for years now, so It does make money. Store Credit has let me buy many things, I have already bought a PSP three years ago, nintendo DS two years ago. and recently over christmas, a Wii. Granted I did partial pays on some of them. I paid after the gift cards about $50 for the PSP and $90 for the Wii. So, of a $220 dollar wii (w/tax), out of my pocket I paid $90! I had 6 gift cards that took care of the rest.
Right now, I am currently doing this and saving up for either a PS3 or 360!
And all those cds you have left over, just donate them to a local thrift store/charity, you've already made some money so let them make some money off of it too.
so my fellow racketboy peeps..... what do you think about this?
