Well they've had about 4 weeks to ship since all the payments came in (not 6+), but your point stands and I agree that missing the deadline is not good form. The shipping deadline was mentioned when I put out the call for items, I have emailed donors several times, and there's not much that I can do short of giving people a -1 for shipping late. Considering they were donating items for charity, I don't feel right doing that. That's the same reason I let some "late donations" come in past the deadline as well. Obviously anyone who doesn't get their items will get a refund.

Any suggestions for how to better handle enforcement of donating/payment/shipping deadlines for next year would be appreciated!
the auction had rules: donate items by certain dead line, no retracting of bids, pay by a certain time, ship by a certain time, etc. for the most part, everybody followed these rules. except with shipping. i could be wrong, but it seems more than half the members who donated did not follow the shipping deadline.

a list was made for the users who paid late, but where is the list of the members who shipped late? what makes the two members who haven't paid yet worse than the members who haven't shipped yet? i think that all rules should be treated equally.

some suggestions: next year have no anonymous donors. put the name next to the item that she donated. this way, if an item hasn't been shipped after 4 weeks the member can politely pm the donor and ask him what the hold up is. and also, the member who buys off a deadbeat, like nbsattorney, will know he won't be getting shit in mail.

in the last episode of seinfeld the whole crew had to sign a consent form that no word was going to be spoken about the episode outside of the studio. maybe next year make clear that if you going to donate an item you will take the responsibility of shipping the item in a timely manner - treat it like a consent form without the signature. and by timely, i don't mean day after. it just seems people really dropped the ball with the shipping part.

after reading this post it may sound like i am pissed. but i am not. i am just throwing out suggestions to make next year's auction a bit more smoother.
if you took a shit, please put it back

I think this is all a bit harsh. Let's keep the whole thing in perspective here. Some members like Nickfil who donated 300 items might not have realized the huge undertaking in packing and shipping that kind of lot. Maybe they became unexpectedly busy during the days that followed and just couldn't get around to it. Not everyone has the same schedule.

I do understand where you are coming from and generally I agree that things should be provided in a timely manner. Especially for something like this. But, I think it is important not to leave a sour taste in the mouth of the people who participated. It doesn't really encourage people to participate next year if people are berating them.

I would hope that there is some communication going on between whatever donors haven't shipped and the buyers they are meant to ship to. I definitely agree that there really isn't an excuse to just leave them hanging without any kind of reasoning. I just want to point out that everyone who participated (that intends to follow through with their commitment) has still done a good thing. Maybe they haven't gone about it the best way possible but I doubt the soup kitchen complains too loudly about volunteers showing up late for work.

The people who haven't and don't intend to follow through with their commitments on the other hand should be banned from the forum as far as I'm concerned.

Well, Nick's post seems to take care of a lot of people. Any chance of finding out who the Animatrix was coming from? As of this past Saturday it hadn't arrived and I hadn't heard a peep from the shipper.

Don't beat yourself up over it. You did a good thing and by the looks of it the auction has a lot of it's success this year thanks to your generous donations. Sometimes people lose sight of the bigger picture. The important thing is that the kids who will directly benefit from it will be undoubtedly grateful.
