Just beat Dead Space 2.

Post by indecks »

It was ok. Better and less retarded than the first game, anyway. The first game had you do all this crazy backtracking and crazy quests to get the automated ship guns to work and then you have to take manual control? Dumb. It makes the previous 2 hours of work totally pointless.

Anyway in Dead Space 2 The last fight (if you wanna call it that) has a tendency to just 'decide you're dead' every once in a while. I died twice. Doesn't make any sense. The guy gets grabbed or shot for no apparent reason. The after credits part was predictable, of course.

And I guess they brought back the regenerating guy that couldn't be killed from the first game. Though I never encountered him in the first game because I never beat it (hated the asteroids part and just traded it in - developers shoudn't put crap in games that take you out of the action), but he's sorta just tossed in there as an afterthought. Its like 'hey remember me, yeah I'm gonna chase you for a little bit even though all you have to do is knock me down and make me slow.'

Meh. I've played better games. But I've also played worse.

Cool. I'd recommend you post here whenever you beat a game: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 44&t=27393

I liked the story and atmosphere of the first, but found the gameplay a bit bland and repetitive and the asteroid shooting mini-game made me want to punch someone. I really wish they could do something special with this series

Stopped reading here. The first Dead Space is awesome all the way to the finish and easily one of the best survival horror games ever/one of the best this gen. The asteroids part was cool, and not hard. I am 1/4 of the way into DS2 so far and loving it. I wish RE would have developed in this way. Survival horror has a new king.

100% agreed. It's another generic survival horror series with *slightly* less backtracking, and it is not_scary_at_all. It's more annoying than anything. I *hate* dark games. Making a game dark doesn't make it 'scary', it blinds the player. That's just annoying. The asteroid bullshit was the dealbreaker for me. It just wasn't fun and it made me not care about finishing the game. It wasn't worth it.

Doesn't matter if it was hard/easy, it was just dumb. I mean the entire quest to that point was get the automated guns going... get the automated guns going... get the automated guns going... get the automated guns going... get the automated guns going...

and then you have to take manual control. WTF?

Also I don't mean to harp on the new game (it wasn't terrible) but the hacking mini-games were just ridiculous and took me out of the game world. I mean come on! It's the year 25XX and there are anti-gravity generators on a space ship that can shatter planets out in deep space - but these machines can be 'hacked' by a guy fisting the case? Yes that's nitpicking but hey - the nits are there to be picked.

Because the auto-targeting was broken and it took a little while to fix. What's so hard to understand?
And on a purely gameplay standpoint it helped to break up the pacing of the game.

Yes, that was the entire point of the quest leading up to that. It had plenty of time to 'get fixed', considering the character had to trek through the bowels of the ship for a couple of hours. I don't need a break up for pacing. If I'm playing a driving game I don't need to play a dating sim between tracks. If it's a bowling game I don't need 1 or 2 levels of pinball.

I was playing a 3rd person shooter, I didn't need to play Xwing Vs Tie Fighter.
