Some old consoles were not composite or Scart; only RF output; eg Intellivision, ColecoVision, Atari 7800 and some others. French ones were Scart though so that is an option (some French ones were just RF some Scart); however they are far from cheap when you manage to find one sometimes.

the tv is decent, you shouldn't be to heavily concerned.

I wouldn't jump in all the way, the cables you have already should get you by just fine. Because most of your consoles are older the cables can just be strung together on a simple analogue switch box of some sort. For the longest time I used this 10 dollar RCA/S-Vid switch box that had lilke 8 inputs.

Then you can slowly build up to the top tier cables for each console. Do them one at a time, see what you think, see if you really give a shit about the slight image quality boost. Sometimes the quality boost might be so minimal you won't notice it.

It's not like the games are going to become unplayable... it's just you've increased your quality ceiling. The only hit you took is that some of your twitch action games may suffer from upscalling lag... hook it up, put a fast paced game in, and measure it for yourself... for all you know you won't notice it.

If it comes to a point where you really want to know about all the ins and outs, then you can go research. We here aren't going to be able to lay out everything because it's a topic that surpasses the scope of a forum thread.

I bought a cheap 5 to 1 SCART cable on ebay and didn't notice any problems (I'm in Canada, so the 5-1 goes to a SCART to Component transcoder).
All my consoles are hooked up to 2 chained Philips PH61150 automatic switches. This way, all I need to do is turn on a console and it's going to the TV. No swapping, switching, or remotes involved.

This is a subject that has been unclear to me for a while. I recently made the step up to a plasma from my old CRT and was annoyed by the lack of S-video inputs on most models. It sucks because component isn't available for the 32-bit and earlier systems.

The Dreamcast still shines with VGA (grabbed the VGA box and VGA+audio cable here) since not only is it the best picture output, but also because I wasn't using that input on my TV anyway. :D

But my Saturn and PS1 don't output anything my TV inputs except for composite. So I figured converting RGB SCART to either YUV Component or HDMI would be the best option.

The possibilities I had considered are`

1.) A SCART to HDMI adapter like
this: http://www.buy.com/prod/belfan-scart-to ... 95053.html
or this: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/scart-vide ... rter-22846

2.) a SCART to YUV Component like
this: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SCART-RGB-YUV-C ... 3362ac0577

3.) DIY SCART -> YUV Component with a JROK board

After some testing, I found that my TV has maybe 10ms less lag over HDMI than component, and I'm not even sure about that. I kinda prefer HDMI for the simple reason I have 3 HDMI inputs and 2 of them are free (1 used for PS3), while I only only have 2 components, which are in use for the Wii and PS2 (and sometimes old Xbox).

Does anyone have any ideas before I spend $50 on a converter box to learn the hard way?

First idea would be to make sure 240p works on your HDTV on component. Boot up a PS1 game via PS2 component and test a few PS1 games.

A good site to read up on what you should do is

Those receivers are optimized for scaling video *not* graphics, the image won't be nearly as sharp as an XRGB-3...

The DVDO edge is nice as well, but it has ringing artifacts with 240p signals. Would bother me but not some folks. There's a new XRGB-mini coming out this spring, it's going to be cheaper that the 3 -- the 3 is really aimed at people who want to use old consoles with computer monitors, the mini's for people who want to use them with HDTV's via HMDI with minimal hassle. I'd wait and see, it won't be too long now.
