Value does not equal rarity, don't mix the two up.

While Zelda is a lot more expensive and always in demand, both Zelda and Chu Chu Rocket can easily be found on eBay/in the wild at any given point.

The facts you're referring to are the most accurate PAL facts you'll find online. The guides currently available have been compiled over a long period of years, way before the site was even in development. Constant cross referencing of eBay auctions, sale threads, while gathering photographic evidence of all variants and so forth.

If you do or do not want to use the guide for your own collection purposes, it up to you. But we can guarantee that the amount of detail and accuracy poured into this project as a whole is beyond words.

so it is your opinion that Super Mario World 1 and 2 are equally rare in Europe?

and...

Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt is equally rare as MegaMan - The Wily Wars?

That's taking it a bit out of context really. Nowhere does it state that these games have an equal rarity on the site, nor would it ever. You and I both know that.

You're welcome to ask any questions you want regarding information on the site, we'd welcome that. We're looking for more active PAL collectors that want to chip in and drive the database further if needs be. So by all means head on over and ask away in the Database Discussion in the forum.

so I did a search on rarity rating 10 and I ended up with this:

http://www.retrocollect.com/search/sear ... rch=Search

and this

http://www.retrocollect.com/search/sear ... rch=Search

that's why I got confused

Try this search instead

It will show no games, but the problem you had was you had 'All' selected in the parameters beside your selected rarity, as apposed to Rarity equals 10

Use this one instead to see games currently listed as rarity 9.

thank you for being patient
no wonder I got so odd results
I'll delve deeper into this, since you do seem to list all the PAL games available, which is the most important factor to me at the moment

I'll investigate the site further and give you a more valued opinion, once I've learned the tricks

:edit

now I see that Super Mario World 1 is rarity 3 and Super Mario World 2 is rarity 1, makes a hell of a lot more sense

I'll get a hang of it and I hope that you keep adding missing games (should there be any) and information to them

No problem, glad to be of help.

Yeah, the is one thing we can be certain on is complete listings of PAL release lists. Something the internet has been lacking in one place for a good long time.

Especially one that tracks variants too. PAL spans so many regions that it is important to cater for everybody. That's why you'll find countless versions of each game documented, for example we currently track the 17 known versions of Super Mario World out there in PAL regions.

And 'should' there be any missing games, this is a database backed by it's community, so we welcome any feedback or reporting. Just get in touch and we will look forward to seeing you on the forums. :)

In all seriousness I was planning out a project like this a couple of months ago. It got sidetracked by projects I was actually gonna get paid for but I've got some free time at the minute..

I understand the tech behind scraping the prices of completed ebay listings, and I spoke to the guy behind videogamepricecharts.com and he said he had no plans to cover the PAL markets so I figured that it would ok to do something similar myself.

I had a good brainstorming session with a friend of mine and between us we came up with good ideas that could offer an even better service.

I've not really ever looked at the ebay from other coutries in the EU, do prices vary that much between countries or are they pretty much the same across the board?

Would people be interested in such a website?

Yeah thats the main problem with being a PAL completionist - all the different varients make it hard to decide when a set is finished and the general lack of info about what was released here doesnt help.

I'm currently gunning for a full set of MegaCD games and the only source that I trust is http://www.sega-mega-cd-library.co.uk/ - there are so many of those late release either got binned or released quietly before dissappearing into obscurity no one was sure if they made it to the shops or not. This guy knows his MegaCD games though and with pics to back up every claimed release you cant go wrong.
