i joined because i found a GBA flash card at a thrift store and i needed (and still do) a driver for it..
i usually posted in gamespot when i had questions about stuff, but they have respect for the law over there (what a bunch of freaks!!) so i had to look for an alternative site.. and i like it here.. you guys are so much cooler than they are..

Re: why did you originally join racketboy?
I'd been reading the articles for some time and browsing the forums a bit. Someone asked a tech question I felt the need to answer.

Racketboy has a forum unsurpassed for intelligent conversation, but also has members open to debate on a level that doesn't include name calling and the usual forum nonsense. Not saying it doesn't happen here, but it happens much less than on other forums I passed on joining.
In short: I'm here for the members. Great lot we've got here.

I also spent a lot of time reading the articles, and decided I better get with the program

Re: why did you originally join racketboy?
I was after a mod chip for my saturn, my search led me here althougth they were out of stock at the time. I found a thread where Racket was saying that he might not get anymore in, so I felt the need to join and pipe up to convince him to get some.
I've never stayed at a single forum for so long ever. The information available here is suberb - I'd rather have a 101 guide than a complete list of all games ever - and the range of people that we've got in the forums is suberb too. We've got plenty modders of all different levels, an Internet celebritiy, enthusiasts on all different genres and platforms.
I can see this turning into another 'I love you guys thread' very very soon

It was the hayday of the 90's. Communism had been defeated and it seemed America could do no wrong. Back in those days we partied every night until the sun came up, our bodies and minds fueled by an endless stream of success, booze, and cocaine.
No, wait. That was the story behind Classic Game Room.
I lurked the guides and forums off and on for awhile. The 2009 auction caught my attention this one time and I decided to join up to see if I could get a Genesis on the cheap to replace the broken one I had purchased ('Like new condition!') off of ebay. Even when I was only participating in the auction there was a very welcoming atmosphere: I did not feel like I had to prove myself or get a specific post count to have a place in the conversation.
And then I stayed. Which rocks for all of you because, really, where would you all be without me?
See?

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: why did you originally join racketboy?
in a forum far far away there was a young man with a dream of having his own forum. There was a lot of promotion, and a lot of hard work, all while the old forum was in duress and collapsing under the sega supremacy. A few of us traveled across the dark ocean of the internet to plant new roots in a new frontier that accepted all video games as equals. And everything was good.

My experience can be summed up in a cheesy slogan:
"Come for the Hidden Gems, stay for the members".
The Hidden Gem articles brought me here, largely because I never felt like I could justify dropping the cash into a modern console when I knew there were so many great inexpensive games I could get for the consoles I already have. The Hidden Gems articles, and to a lesser extent the Defining Games articles introduced me to a ton of games I would have otherwise just glossed over in the used games section.
Then I would see some people say things like "hey, we're having a conversation about this on the forum. Come join in." So I lurked the forums for a bit and was impressed by the members knowledge and passion for gaming, and by their humor, intelligence, and civility in conversation. We have something special here and I feel fortunate to be a part of it.

Re: why did you originally join racketboy?
the articles (hidden gems and most valuable) is what got me here also. i believe it took me a month of lurking and googling before i joined the forum. the buy and sell thread did it when i was looking to sell my Atari Lynx collection.. my first sale was so successful, i decided to become a regular and that's where Name that Game contest started. it's also where i met my first best friend in the forum: Hobie-Wan.
