I'm hearing about 5 hours for battery life which might be better than 3DS if early reports are accurate. Not bad, I guess... but less than I'd like. (Getting a full 8 hour day would be ideal in my opinion. I'm also skeptical that either reported battery life is accurate at this point.)
As for price, I suspect $250 is on the low side based on the PSP Go pricing fiasco. But maybe Sony will do things differently this time.
Not sure if this has been addressed (i only read the first page), but people complaining about the hardware: It's coming out in a year! Remember when Sony changed the PS3 controller within the last few months before release? It's a prototype, and there are still issues being worked out. Who cares what it looks like right now, the specs sound amazing! Plus everyone has been complaining about the PSP1 having only on analog nub, and now they have two, a touch-screen, a touch-panel, and a better screen and the only thing people can talk about is how ugly a prototype is.
Jesus, nobody is ever satisfied with anything anymore. LittleBigPlanet with a full PS3 control scheme on the go will be unbelievable, and any Uncharted game is worth a replay. Plus look at the 3DS launch titles...all the good ones are long-time Nintendo franchise entries but everyone is shitting their pants over the 3DS regardless of that. Sure the PSP2 doesn't have 3D but it's a pretty amazing piece of hardware. Seems like there is no shortage of hardcore Sony haters...
Did follow the news up to 2am Central time on the release.
Man, that is one sexy machine!
But of course, how much will it cost? One of the my bros, who is in the tech sector, thinks the NGP/PSP2 could cost at least USD $350 at launch, and anything lower than USD $300 could be a significant loss - unless Sony wants to sell units ASAP.
Another concern that he shared with me is the US market, since telecom companies have regional domination, how will the wi-fi and 3G services be provided for the NGP? IF this was to follow the examples of Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle, we could be looking at USD $500 for the NGP to include Wi-Fi and 3G services to work around the country.
But that are just some of the concerns, still it is an impressive machine.
I like the fact that "dumbed-down" PS3 games will be available for this system. I spend a lot of time traveling by airplane and the PSP2 will give me an opportunity to play some PS3 games I would have otherwise missed out on. There are USB outlets available on airplanes now (Most Boeing models, I don't know about Airbus), so battery life is almost a non-issue for those who use their portables while airborne.
If this thing is priced at $400 then sony already lost. If its at $300 they may have a fighting chance. If its priced at < $300, they will win the portable market. I still think this will be $400 at launch. Why wont they post the price already.

Probably because they don't know. Prices for manufacturing may come down between now and the end of they year (JPN release), so it is feasible that they are waiting until just beforehand (like Nintendo did with the 3DS). Could you imagine if this was cheaper than the 3DS? It would be a ballsy move to announce the price as under the 3DS's MSRP just before the 3DS launches...
Of course, they will need to sell a ton of software at that price to make up any loss. Considering they sold the PS3 at a loss for years, I wonder if this is something they are seriously considering...

waiting to see how the market reacts to the 3DS price point?

Would they sell the NGP for a loss for a few years if they are planning on selling PS4s for a loss for years in the near future?

I love all of the new additions but Sony can't price themselves out of the market. Raw power has never been what made a hand-held successful.
The funny thing is now that i know they have ditched UMD, which in all honesty they needed to do, I'm more interested in buying a PSP now then buying the new one when it comes out.
