Seriously! I mean, truth be told I've never played a Halo game. I was Nintendo/Sega in the 90's and Nintendo/Sony in the 00's. I stayed away from Xbox as much as I could in those days. And I just adore this game. To me it's proof that game design and execution is far more important than anything else. This game is fun, intense, difficult, impressive... ah! Just play it everyone -- there's even a Flash version -- you don't even need to download it!
An average, relatively mindless and straight forward little play through...Ys III doesn't really stand up to the test of time, but I was still compelled to play through it for whatever reason. Maybe it was the fantastically bad voice acting that kept me going!

how is it compared to I & II?
Funny enough, I actually don't own and haven't played I & II yet. I'm trying to build up my Duo collection, and I just bought Ys III last week and popped it in to check it out real quick and make sure it worked. Played it for a little bit and just kept going. I will say, Ys III does deserve mention for it's excellent soundtrack.
Just noticed a couple fairly priced listings on eBay for Ys Books I & II, maybe I'll go for that next..
Soul Calibur IV 360 TMNT Gameboy TMNT II Gameboy Golden Axe Sega CD Streets of Rage Sega CD Revenge of Shinobi Sega CD Rebel Assault Sega CD Jurassic Park Sega CD Sonic CD Sega CD Soul Calibur II Crube Altered Beast Genesis StarBlade Sega CD Madden 94 SNES Madden 94 Genesis Sewer Shark new! Zillion II SMS new!
For what it's worth, obtaining all the Chaos emeralds in Sonic CD is rewarding, but don't expect much of a change in the ending. But it is nice to know I'm Too Cool!
Not much to add about what I've already said about Zillion and Sewer Shark. I'm at the point with Sewer Shark where I think I can beat it anytime I play it.
Games Beaten: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin for the DS-9/10 score Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for the PS3-8/10 Sonic 4: Episode 1 for the PS3-6/10
Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Nintendo Wii-7.5/10
Pros:
Challenging Lots of replay value Lot of creative twists on conventional platforming I don't know if this is a common thing in Wii games, but I found the sound effects coming from my controller quite amusing Decent soundtrack, though most of it is recycled DKC tunes Decent bosses. Nothing memorable though Some cool visual set pieces and some artsy looking levels where all of the characters become silhouettes as the sun sets in the background. Kind of like that silhouette fight in Kill Bill Vol 1 Great controls for the most part, though shaking the controller for Kong's moves does seem gimmicky and unnecessary. It didn't hamper my playing much, but a button press would be more intuitive. For the record, I played mostly with the nunchuk setup. The analogue stick works surprising well for all of the games tricky platforming exercises.
Cons:
See above regarding controller shaking. This is a nitpick as it didn't cause me much grief, but it seemed pointless when a button press could accomplish the same thing. I did enjoy shaking the controller for melee combos to finish off bosses though(shoryuken!), or pummelling the end of stage barrells. Silly, but fun. Rocket barrel riding levels are infuriating with their awkward controls and cheap one hit kills Unlockable special stages are unreasonably hard and have zero checkpoints. These levels are pure developer sadism and nothing more On that point, a few of the game's stages could have used an extra check point. Diddy Kong is nothing more than a power up in this game Where are the water levels? I would have taken them over those god awful rocket barrel riding stages. Character designs are bland You don't get to use animals much, unlike the original DKC Gold coins are so pointless in this game. The game gives you way more of them than you will ever use in the shops. Also, I don't approve of shops selling extra lives. Makes trying to get them in the levels pointless Collecting all items is more about difficult platform exercises than it is "finding them", unlike the 16-bit games. I found this dissapointing The game is very condescending and insulting. Die enough times in a stage and the game starts asking you if you want to cheat by using Super Kong, who is apparently an AI character who plays the level for you. I refused to use this option and was annoyed by the game even suggesting it. The game loses a whole point off my score for that Super Kong bull shit.
A good solid platformer, but different from the original DKC games in too many ways and sadistically hard at times. Plus, I simply will not show support for that Super Kong crap. That's video game hand holding taken to an extreme. Still, I had some fun playing through this. I give it a 7.5
