Favourite and least-favourite storage mediums?

Post by Flodder450 »

From the cards of the Magnavox Oddeysee, to the PS3 bluray, which are your favourite and least favourite storage mediums?

my favourites are (in no particular order):
1:Nintendo Gamecube Discs:small and compact, these small disks could hold 1,5GB of data,i always liked the small size of it
2:N64 Gamepaks:these carts are some of the strongest ive ever seen,i once put one to the test, trowing it from 2 storys up,driving it over with a car, smashing it with a hammer, the cartidge still works!its amazing these things can take such a beating!
3:gameboy game pak:same with the gamecube discs,i like how small they are,but hold such big games, thsese things also can take quite the beating and are made to last!

Was just thinking of this the other day.
Favorite: CD-ROMs/GD-ROMs in jewel cases: I love how compact these are considering my wife is more concerned about the volume my games take up than the actual number. I like how they can still have big, beautiful artwork and not feel as cheap as DVD style cases. Replacing a cracked or broken one is a breeze as well.

Least Favorite:
CD-ROMs in long box cases. Pretty much the antithesis to jewel cases. Very large, take up a lot of room and storage options for them are more limited vs jewel and DVD cases due to the proprietary nature of the cases. Easy to crack, hard to replace and hold disks horribly (definitely not a fan of foam inserts). Very happy Sony changed their minds about these for the PS1 and the reason why I prefer a Japanese Saturn over an American one.
"There are two ways to get enough. One way is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less." G.K. Chesterton

Feedback: +1 Racketboy, +119 eBay

I have no good reason, but I really like UMDs. They look cool and they're compact.

Favorite: DVD. Durable, fairly small, inexpensive, holds a lot of data.
Least favorite: CD-ROM. Scratch the label side and it's dead.

I love the old PC boxes. Big, with lots of content and awesome manuals. It's a shame that when you buy a new game it barely has a DVD in it. Fortunatedly, piracy is making publishers add more content like decent manuals and picture books.

I don't have any medium I don't like so none.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Generally speaking, I like cartridges best, optical media second and digital downloads last.
Out of all the various storage mediums I have games on, my favorite is probably the Nintendo DS game cards. I also really like the packaging that DS games come in.
