Niode, any firmware you can recommend outside and/or on top of GeoHot? I've noticed the surplus of CFW lately and I honestly can't tell the crap from the groundbreaking..

Use my build of KMEAW. It runs backups flawlessly. You can get it here:

Full instructions inside the zip.

OBVIOUSLY: No warranty implied, do it at your own risk, I accept no responsibility. etc.

Can this build of Kmeaw be installed with GeoHot on my 120GB Slim, or do I need to downgrade to OFW, then upgrade to Kmeaw?

Nope just install it right over whatever firmware you've got. IF it's giving you issues then you might need to be in recovery mode; the method to get into this mode is described here: http://community.us.playstation.com/message/2252774

Followed your instructions in the README and it worked like a charm! Thanks a ton, Niode!

Btw - I can delete the lv2-Patcher from the dash after running it once, right?

Well, well, well. It looks like Sony's back to its old dirty tricks: http://www.ps3-hacks.com/2011/02/01/ps3-firmware-3-56-includes-a-rootkit/

damn it. I want to hack my ps3, but I want to be able to play LBP2 online as well....I'll probably end up buying a second PS3.

That's probably the most invasive anti-piracy method ever.

Glad I didn't update.

It's not just invasive, it's illegal. Sony did this a long while back with audio CD's from Sony BMG records, got the Bejeezus sued out of them and ended up losing several millions of dollars.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS
