Reading this article makes me think there will be some hilarious moments of screwing up spells in this game. It sounds like fun.

Really sounds like fun.

I've been thinking how nice a game "completely" dedicated to magic systems could be very cool (probably there were some already). I wasn't imagining this kind of stuff, but it really sounds interesting!

Also I really enjoy different magic systems in games - the rune casting of Ultima Underworld comes to mind for me.

although I never do magic-based characters, I am quite impressed with how Arx Fatalis uses it's magic system

it's a spiritual successor (or at least in the same vein, albeit not made by the same company) as Ultima Underworld

you use your mouse and move the cursor to create spells on-screen; here's an example:

sorry for derailing, just thought it'd be worth a mention, if you're into magic and Ultima Underworld ^^

Give it a few days. The game as it stands is alot of fun BUT fairly buggy in multiplayer. When it worked it was awesome and my friends and I killed each other in good fun. When it didnt, well it just goofed up. The developer is putting out a patch every 24 hours (apparently there is a time limit between patches on steam) until it is 100%. Apparently they just didnt stress test the netcode enough.

The scroll wheel issue is kinda annoying. It is your quick spell book, meaning it shows combinations under your avatar. Middle click is cast on yourself. So if you hit W (healing) and center click, you will heal yourself. the issue is that you dont technically have to have the spell open to cast it, but Ive found you cannot cast a different spell when it is open. Ie if you have Haste open, you cant cast Resurrection. Now that might just be human error, but I typically try to leave it on the nothing screen.

there are currently two gametypes - Adventure and Challenge. Challenge is a single screen arena against waves. Adventure is full of Star Wars, popculture and video games reference.

Overall, even with the technical foulups, I think I got my $10 out of it last night playing it for about five hours. Then I tried to sync my ipod and it took me three hours to get itunes to recognize it again (Apple support said it is no longer supported and to buy a new one...its a 5th gen so only 4 years old).

Holy shit this game is confusing. I'm sure I can get the hang over it, but the sheer amount of options you have is kind of overwhelming. This is one of those games that requires practice. For some reason it runs like a dog on my system and it was only on medium settings. My system isn't a slouch either. Might have something to do with all the background programs I was running but I just think it's poorly optimised since I had no more than usual and I don't experience a problem in games like Dirt 2, Metro 2033 etc on highest settings.

Big patch has dropped - according to a friend, it fixes most of the issues I had.
