Your pre-launch excitement for the 3DS versus DS
Re: Your pre-launch excitement for the 3DS versus DS
It's hard to say. With the original DS I found the potential to be exciting. With the 3DS we have a proven piece of technology and hopefully it will continue to be a home of awesome RPGs like the DS was. So I guess I'd say my level of excitement is the same.

Humble battery performance, region-locking and more expensive RRPs. What's not to get excited about?

I'm still not hyped about it's release, nor do I wanna drop $250 on it, but after watching the video on this page...

...I have to admit, I kinda wanna get one.

Re: Your pre-launch excitement for the 3DS versus DS
I was excited for the DS launch and bought an American unit on launch day. However, I am much more excited for the 3DS. Finally we can have good graphics on a Nintendo handheld. Graphics aside, there is the 3D widescreen of course. Don't forget about the motion sensors and 3 cameras. There is a lot of new technology here and it can improve the gaming experience in more ways than just a simple graphics improvement. And the games are on cartridges, which is fantastic imo.
I pre-ordered the Japanese 3DS, along with Sengoku Musou Chronicles and Ridge Racer 3D. It should arrive just before March. Hopefully I will remember to give you guys some first impressions.

Quoted for truth about the OoT remake. I actually am very excited for the 3DS which is opposite of how I felt when the DS launched back in 2004. I remember when the DS first launched, I had no interest in it at all. The thing looked like butt, there werent any games at launch I was excited about, and the Xbox 360 was a year away which I was more excited about at the time. I did pick up a DS when the Lite came out for my 17th birthday and it was good times.
I'm also excited for the 3DS more is because it seems like a long time since we got new hardware. Just thinking about Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid 3, Mega Man Legends 3 portable and in 3D makes me

I want to be more excited about the 3DS but I just can't. Not at £230... Way too much. Plus that crap battery puts me right off. I think I'm going to wait and play it first before seeing if I want plump for one. My friend already has his pre-order down so I'll get to play it launch day regardless. I really need to see if I can live with the 3D that this produces as I've had difficulty with headaches and motion sickness with the current with-glasses 3D tech.

I have to admit my excitement pretty much died down when I found out the announced price and that it was going to be region locked. I have to admit I am also not well impressed by the battery life. If it was cheaper and non-region locked I might even be tempted enough to get it in 2011.
I still have high hopes for it - there is indeed lots of cool stuff in the hardware that could really lead to great gaming experiences. I'm eagerly expecting to see what the devs create for it (being a Nintendo handheld, we can probably count on at least few very good 1st-party games).
I'm certainly not considering buying it now - not at that price. The issue with the battery is also something that is likely to get improved in a further iteration of the hardware - even though the 3DS looks pretty slick and slim from the start, while I do not expect a big re-design (as from the DS to the DS Lite) but I do expect a re-design nonetheless (imagine something like DS to DSi, or PSP to the PSP-slim models, or even as slight as from the PSP 2000 to the 3000 model perhaps).
I will wait and see.

Re: Your pre-launch excitement for the 3DS versus DS
I am more excited about the 3DS now than DS back then.
Originally I never had any handhelds, it was my bro that had the original GBA, and quite ironically he never got any Pokemon games for it, despite being a fan earlier. So he gave it to me, and I kept it to this day. As the DS and PSP were about to be released, I was more into the PSP than the DS, but Sony's poor marketing decision put me off - IF I was in charge back then, I would list the launch price at USD $220 including a 1GB memory stick + Lumines! no crappy ear-buds, nor carry pouch, just make it sure it is ready to play (after charging the batteries).
The DS caught my eye with a relatively lower price and more solid games - I picked the DS phat with Meteos and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow all at once, and later added Kirby: Canvas Curse and Elite Beat Agents in the same year. But after picking up more games and getting the PSP-2000, I gotta say the games don't look great on the DS.
I am surprise by the risk that Nintendo has choose to take for the 3DS, and I can't wait to see in-person about the 3D screen. BUT will I get the 3DS at launch? At this point, I would rather wait a bit longer, just to make there are at least 3 games worth buying.

Re: Your pre-launch excitement for the 3DS versus DS
As a 10 year old, I was too bust playing N64 to care about the original DS, until I got one (
), so no hype there.
I'm really excited for the 3DS, but ill probably wait a bit to get one.

Re: Your pre-launch excitement for the 3DS versus DS
I am excited enough that I just traded in my DSi XL in for $100 credit on my 3DS pre-order at Gamestop.
Ocarina of Time does nothing for me (since I never cared for it in the first place) but Mega Man Legends 3? Oh hell yes.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
