i hacked my slim about a month ago, and all went well. I pandorized my battery to do so, and i can still use the battery just like normal and all. I downgraded my FW to 5.0 i think, and then ran a CFW installer, easy-peasy as they say. I'm not at all too concerned about latest firmware, since any ISO/CSO that needs it, can be found patched if need be. I'll try to dig up the guide i used if you're interested. Oh, and you'll need to make yourself a magic memory stick to pull the mod off too, which can be made very very easily.
