if what i read somewhere is true, its nintendos fault sony made a console as they asked sony to make a cd ad on for the snes called "play station" to combat sega's megacd but then didn't want it. in favor of a cart system, n64. so sony released it as there console.
(please correct me if this is wrong)

It's not that Nintendo didn't want a CD attachment, it's the fact Nintendo had licensed some characters and franchises to be used on the Philips CD-i that ruined Nintendo having a CD attachment.

When Sony saw that the CD-i was getting some Mario and Zelda games, Sony assumed that Nintendo went behind their backs and got Philips to make the CD attachment for the SNES.

Thus the playstation was born.
Atari 2600 (AV mod), NES, SNES (region switch for PAL), Virtual Boy, Gamecube, Wii (D2CKey), PSX (Stealth V), PS2 (independence exploit w/ 160 GB HDD), Goldstar 3DO, Philips CD-i, Dreamcast, Saturn (racketboy's chip), Sega Genesis 2 + CD2 + 32X + Power Base Converter, Game Gear.

Anyone who thinks Sony is more than 10% responsible for the death of Dreamcast is fooling themselves. I suggest you let go of your fanboy-ism because there's a lot of gold waiting for you on PS1, and a few nuggets on PS2. I hate Sony as a console manufacturer as much as the next guy, but no one is going to give me a medal for staying true to Sega and Nintendo.

It's pretty stupid to hold a grudge against a piece of plastic and silicon. Hate the executives who made Sega fail, and enjoy the games that have been made, and continue to be made, regardless of who made them.

Here here!

No medal, more like a dunce cap. Come one! PS1 has the best RPG library out there plus many re-released SNES Squaresoft games because Nintendo failed to secure 3rd party software developers. Just cause you hate the company, you still have to give the game developers some credit. It's not their fault Sony made it easier to program and release games on their consules and get some kind of distrubution in the US. So many great games for the Saturn, N64 and Dreamcast didn't make it here and thats what really held them back.

However, Sony does not have great business practices and their greed and lack of forsight has made PS3 the current loser of the consule wars. You may get your wish, after all.

Sony just outmustered everyone with smart tactics and the strongest sofwtare line up around. Just like others have already mentioned. I can't understand how anyone would be against the Playstation, it has done so much for the industry.

BTW as for the whole Sony/Nintendo debarkle, I wrote up a referenced feature of it. Basically the Playstation was a result of the Phillips CD-i. Nintendo decided to backstab Sony as they(Nintendo) made a stupid decision and then Sony trounched them. I don't wanna paste in large pararaphs so you ca read the rest here (whoring myself out again )

10%? Isn't that a bit low?
Sega wasn't THAT helpless with the Dreamcast?
And the N64 sure didn't hurt it....
THe actual PS2 might not have done it but between the preceding hype of the PS2 and the fact that it had a DVD player while the DC would push the PS2 damage level to above 10%, IMO.

hmm, can just ask 1 off topic question? how long did it take devs to take 100% of all of the ps2's power? god of war, mi rite?

but look at the dreamcast, there are a ton of games that took fully advantage of the specs.

sony hyped the ps2. sony hyped the ps3. nuff said.
