I was always wondering the same thing. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with a wireless attachment because that would require a little supported device (the 3D controller) to be owned and a separate purchase of a wireless device.

Then again, this is Sega we are talking about. You never know what bizarre marketing method they approach. I think they listen to their engineers before they listen to their marketing team.

Anyways, even then... that would be quite a bit for even an engineer to think of.

Still I do wonder, Sega always put weird expansion ports on all their consoles for bizarre devices.

Yeah, it was just Sega planning ahead for some add-on.
Ah... the good 'ol days when Sega was cutting-edge.

I remember reading an interview with somebody at Sega during the Saturn days (sorry can't remember the magazine) and he said they could release much cheaper special controllers like the train device or twin-sticks as modular add-ons instead of separate things.

Of course, this never happened as it was supposed to. Too bad.

There could be an article on this site about Sega's innovative hardware plans that never panned out, either due to marketing or Sega's fractured management or whatever caused its failure.

If I may go off topic for a second...Sega shouldn't have stopped making hardware, they should have stopped making games (except for core franchise games). Too bad all the money today is made in games and lost in hardware. Looking at their website these days makes me sad.

There actually was a train controller. I saw it on eBay lately. It was for some Japanese "densha de go" game or something along those lines.

yeah the train controller is pretty good, but it didn't use the expansion slot from the analog controller...it should have if possible, same with the twin-sticks but I don't know how much hardware is actually in the removable bit from the analog controller
