Things are quite legit here actually though one can still find pirated PS2 and Wii games around. Now that the PS3 has been hacked, I guess we'll be seeing a lot of pirated PS3 games as well

Back in the 90s though, you could find all sorts of interesting famiclones, If only I knew back then that they would be a curiosity in the West now! I would have bought quite a few, they were so cheap. Would certainly provide endless blog topics, for sure.

It will take very long until downloads surpass retail. Gaming getting into the mainstream means that retail stores make more money, your average mommy and daddy will not even know that they can buy things online and even if they do, they won't.

Also video game publishers lack the trust of the public. I wouldn't trust Ubisoft or Activison the same way I trust Valve, by far.

I don't think it's going to take as long as we think. There's a generation or two of adult gamers which probably includes a large majority of people on this site and even if they're not gamers people in their 20's, 30's and 40's are using the net for social networking and what not. The average mom and dad aren't going to be ignorant of the way the Internet works anymore. Kids are also growing up where stuff like Steam (you can argue physical copies are already practically dead on PC thanks to this), the console download services and PSP Go already exist so they may not find themselves as attached to physical copies of media as some of us.

I don't believe this personally. Think of all the people still producing physical releases for the Atari 2600 each year. We (and by "we" I mean us retro enthusiasts, who grew up on a physical medium) will not get used to it.

If the price is right, I will get used to it. I just spent $50 on DSiWare games the past week and $20 for Steam downloads. No physical media.

I have a collection of about 900+ CDs that I haven't touched in 3-4 years since they've been ripped to the hard drive. I did buy a new CD at Christmas time (first one in 2-3 years) only because I was at Costco and they had a really good deal ($9).

that's fine. And I'm with you on mp3's personally. I'm just saying that there will always be a circle of enthusiasts who will keep the physical medium alive. Maybe you won't be part of it, but it will exist.
