S-video to Component?
S-video to Component?
Is there anyway to convert S-video to Component or Hdmi? I have been thinking about getting a new tv and my Dreamcast, Saturn, Neo Geo and Neo Geo CD are all S-video. Its either find something to convert them or keep the old TV and have 2 setup.
Re: S-video to Component?
Does such a thing still exist? Most I have looked at have multiple HDMI inputs, one or two component and one composite.
I just found this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814999019&cm_re=s-video-_-14-999-019-_-Product
That could work for the Neo Geo, Neo CD, and 3DO but I would need to buy mulitple adapters. The Saturn and Dreamcast are another story though.

Re: S-video to Component?
If you do get an HDTV make sure you do your research. There are three things you need to worry about when buying one and the are as follows:Input Lag, Video Connections (you want S-video/Component/VGA), and if it accepts 240p over component.
240p is the resolution all these old consoles. The problem with 240p is it often gets mistaken for 480i on component inputs with HDTVs, since it has the same scan rate.
Just giving a heads up on what you will run into.

Your signal quality is only as good as the weakest chain (the source aka game console)
Re: S-video to Component?
There are upconverters available. Keep in mind its still an S-Video signal of 480i or lower. As for the Dreamcast, you can go VGA if your HD supports 640x480 VGA input mode.forsigmar wrote:Is there anyway to convert S-video to Component or Hdmi? Re: S-video to Component?
The end on that newegg adapter doesn't look like any S-Video plug I've seen. I'm pretty sure it's simply mislabled. I looked into it before and the converter boxes that do that conversion are very expensive -examples Here, Here and Here.
There are some cheaper options available on Dealextreme. I got this one which works, but the signal is kinda dirty and ugly. VGA can be plugged into a DVI slot via a cheap cable or dongle, or converted further to HDMI or Component so if you gamble on one of Dealextreme's products you might be able to do the conversion cheaper than the previous products.
If you want a perfect solution you could wait for a XRGB Flame Meister. You could then hook up any type of input and have a perfect picture on your HDTV (S-video or get some SCART cables for your systems). I hear they'll be more affordable than the previous XRGB products (both/all of which would solve your problem perfectly as well but are very pricey).
