Anyone here ever play Messiah?
I heard about it back when it was in development. I completely missed it's release. Just wondering if anyone has anything good to say about it.

It's ok. It's a first person shooter game that is fun, but nothing really special about how it plays. The one thing that is cool about it is the concept of being able to possess other people and use their bodies (and equipped weapons) for your own means. That's pretty brilliant gameplay idea that doesn't get used much. Geist (for the Gamecube) is the only other game I can think of with possession as a power, which is another interesting, yet flawed game.

Tim Schafer has a new game coming out with a similar concept called Stacking. If you like Messiah you should check it out.

There was an old arcade game, that has a Game Boy(might be color) port, called Avenging Spirit. I came across that one a long time ago, when I was first getting into emulation, and I used different arcade emulators(pretty much just stick to M.A.M.E. now, but it was one of the games Raine ran). When Messiah was in development I thought of Avenging Spirit, and that's what kept my interest in the game at the time. I was waiting for the Dreamcast release though. Lost my interest over the years, I'd heard it was buggy as hell, and not so great.J T wrote:It's ok. It's a first person shooter game that is fun, but nothing really special about how it plays. The main melody is very similar and obviously inspired by Topsy. That's the closest I can figure.Niode wrote:

This is a mechanic I like so I keep it in mind whenever I see it.J T wrote:That's pretty brilliant gameplay idea that doesn't get used much. Geist (for the Gamecube) is the only other game I can think of with possession as a power, which is another interesting, yet flawed game.

There is a freeware Japanese game called Obake. I think it was mentioned here in Racketboy a while ago. You control a ghost and can possess enemies, it is quite a decent game (on the easy side).
Not quite posession but take powers from enemies:
The Blue Mage in some FF games (I only know it from FFTA);
There is Megaman and Kirby of course that you certainly know;
Cybermage, an old FPS game. When you get hit by a spell (e.g. from an enemy you learn it);
To some extent, the great but relatively unknown platformer Putty (also known as Silly Putty or Super Putty I think).

Yeah, that song is also like Topsy as well, but isn't it either.J T wrote:Kind of vaguely reminds me of the Star Wars Cantina SongNiode wrote:Oh and if anybody can tell me where I've heard the music from in that trailer I will seriously give you something for free.
