You will need a faq to progress through story mode. The branching decisions are in Japanese.

I believe the stats screen is in Japanese making it very difficult to discern which stats you are upgrading.

It's my understanding that the opening animated sequence has voice-overs in the JP version. However, being as I only have the US version (with shit-ass box art), I can't confirm this.

Yeah, def cheaper, but if it turns out I am in fact missing some story or can't read the stat screens, I opened for nothing and still have to get the US version.

I have the US version. It is worth it.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

So you've said that if you can get away with playing the JPN version than you wouldn't splurge for the US version. This leaves me to assume you're not concerned with collecting the US version, you just wanna play the game. So if you already own the JPN version, why not just play the US version from a burn?

...well, i'm a burn snob. Not a morality thing or anything of the sort. At the risk of getting too serious, I have a "medical condition": I need things to aligned a certain way or it bothers me, very similar to OCD if you will. I need artwork clean (like no white fuzzing on the top or it drives me nuts)

I can not enjoy playing a burn, seriously. I have some burns from a few years back of Mars Matrix and Cannon Spike and I could not enjoy them even though they are great games (now that I have the originals I know this).

I don't take pills or anything, but every now and then I get bad attacks and have to miss work and play vid games. My doctor writes a note and everything, Mike out 2 days, "Chronic Needshisshitmintnlegititis"

Why did you make this thread and ask for advice if you were just going to open it anyway?
I've owned both versions before and could have parroted exactly what others here have said; the dialogue and level up screens are all in Japanese.

It's still great fun without understanding the language, but of course you will get more out of it if you can read and understand...

My best friend is like that. Kind of a cross between OCD and extreme anxiety in his case. If he just "feels" that something is wrong in his house, he HAS to go back to double check things; however silly it seems to everyone else. He has medication for it, which helps him a lot.

I'm the same way, although as far as I know it isn't a medical condition. Who knows, maybe I would be diagnosed with something? I couldn't try Radiant Silvergun until I actually had a copy, for example.

@Breetai

I think he's trying to ascertain whether it is worth his time to keep the Jp version sealed and get the US version.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
