Racing game recommendations.

I think its called Ivan Stewarts Off Road Racing for the SNES, NES & Genesis. A really fun racer. Also Racing Gears for the GBA is hands down the best racer for the GBA IMO.

If you want some good racing for free, I recommend TrackMania: Nations Forever

If you are wondering what console is best for racing, it's probably the PS2. I have a ton of racing games for the PS2 that are really good. Midnight Club series, Need For Speed series, ToCa series, Gran Turismo series, Burnout series, Flatout series, Ridge Racer series, plus you have some fun fictional racers like the Wipeout series and the Extreme-G series. Even the Grand Theft Auto series has some good racing moments.

I have a PS2 racing wheel and it's a blast. One word of caution though. My favorite racing games are Midnight Club 2 & 3, but to start a race you have to use the L3/R3 buttons and my racing wheel doesn't have those. You might want to make sure your wheel does, otherwise you will have to switch between controller and wheel to start a race, which is annoying.

Rock and Roll Racing on the SNES/Genesis is AWESOME!!!

Blowing rival racers to bits with rockets while a funny announcer is calling the action and Black Sabbath's Paranoid playing in the background. It doesn't get any better than that!

The Need for Speed, Road Rash

Shockingly enough, these two are best on the 3DO.

I know, I have both. The Saturn version has two extra tracks. Plus, really... when the only games worth getting on a system all have good ports to other systems (NFS, Road Rash, Gex), then what's the point? The 3DO is just for collecting.

Going to break from the steady flow of retro-awesomeness that's being recommended and go with some more modern gen titles..

GRID, Forza 2, and Project Gotham Racing 4 do a great job of maintaining the simulation aspect of racing games.
If illegal street racing and Japanese imports interest you at all, check out Need For Speed: Underground 2, Juiced 2, and Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

The best part about these titles is they are available for either 360 or PS3, and they can be had for super low cheap!

Of course, IMHO, nothing compares to the F-Zero series!

It depends, do you mind old games? If you don't, there must be quite a lot of good titles on the PS2 that don't require the investment a modern console has. The PC lacks many titles due exclusivity but it tends to have some bonuses like being a slighty better port or an active mod community to get more tracks.

The first thing you must know when it comes to wheels is, how much are you willing to pay? There's a very big divide between your average cheap wheel and those that have force feedback so that it takes force to spin the wheel, like a real car.



When it comes to games, I recommend you OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast, it's availble on PC, PS2, Xbox and a wonderful PSP port.

It's a very polished game, that people who like to improve their times will love while at the same time being incredibly easy to pick up and play. You can check a review of it in my blog.

2600: Enduro Racer [Not great with graphics, but the gameplay is surprisingly deep]
5200: Pole Position [Pole Position with analog control? ]
7800: Pole Position 2 [New tracks and enhanced graphics make this an awesome racer]
Lynx: Hard Drivin' [Slow gameplay, but a technological triumph on the Lynx]
Jaguar: Atari Carts [Maybe the Jag wasn't meant for 3D. Even so, it still has great 2D games like this.]
NES: RC Pro AM [I don't play my NES that often, but I usually play this game when I do]
Game Boy: Wave Race [A lot of people forget that the series started on the Game Boy]
SNES: Super Mario Kart [But if you want a bit different racer with awesome graphics, then try Super Off Road: The Baja]
N64: Diddy Kong Racing [Haters gonna hate.]
Game Boy Color: Test Drive Le Mans [ I don't remember if this game has the 24-hour race like the console version, but it's a still an fine game.]
Game Boy Advance: Crazy Taxi Catch A Ride [Framerate is pretty bad, but graphics like these are impressive on the GBA]
Gamecube: F-Zero GX [Lots of action and shiny graphics moving along at a rock-steady, silky-smooth framerate]
DS: Mario Kart DS [I still believe this is the best kart racing game ever made.]
Wii: Mario Kart Wii [Online play on the Wii done RIGHT.]
Master System: Outrun [What did you think I was going to put here?]
Game Gear: Outrun Europa [If you couldn't tell before, I like Outrun.]
Genesis: Virtua Racer [Who would have thought the Genesis could pull of graphics like this?]
Sega CD: Road Rash [Not much competition on the system, so this wins almost by default.]
32X: Virtua Raing Deluxe [Slim pickins' on the 32X]
Saturn: Daytona USA [I'm in the minority when I say that I strongly prefer this game to Sega Rally.]
Dreamcast: Crazy Taxi [Not really a racing game, but it's so fun, I'm willing to let it slide]
Playstation: Ridge Racer 4 [A close call between this and Gran Turismo 2]
Playstation 2: Gran Turismo 4 [Holy crap, 1080i on a PS2?!]
Playstation 3: Gran Turismo 5 [Duh.]
Xbox: Outrun 2 [A glorious return to the series.]
Xbox 360: Test Drive Unlimited [I have yet to play it, but my friend, who is a racing game aficionado, insists it is the best on the system.]
TurboGrafx-16: Final Lap Twin [A unique combination of Racing and Role-Playing]
3DO: The Need For Speed [The original game just has an unmistakable charm to it]

I've been really enjoying F-Zero GX. Kinda like the later Wipeout games, but more forgiving.
There's the commonly mentioned Forsza series and Gran Turismo series - The GT guys also made a motorcycle one called Tourist Trophy
If you like drifting, the Ridge Racer series and Project Gotham Racing are good.
For hit to pass, the Flatout series and Need for Speed Takedown are fun - also Twisted Metal series.
Audiosurf is fun as well.
I haven't found a decent monster-truck game yet.
I still play stunts for DOS - I've been watching the remake attempts but they aren't quite there.

Also, Mario Kart DS is, in my opinion, the best of the series. If you have a DS, you need this game in your collection.
