Horror Movies

Post by Evildeadmanwalking77 »

I didn't see a topic anywhere for this so being the hardcore Horror flick fan that I am I though I'd create one. Just something for everyone to come and discuss their favorite horror movie(s). I love all types of horror. My absolute favorites of all time are: Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Child's Play, Evil Dead (in case you couldn't figure that out! ), Sleepaway Camp, Slumber Party Massacre, etc. The list goes on forever and I'm inlcluding the sequels to all these movies as well! All these remakes are hit or miss with me. I'm not completely against them but I'm not completely for them either. Let's have fun with this one guys! I'm curious what the horror fans on here likes/dislikes.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

My favorite horror movie is definitely the original Dawn of the Dead. The remake was actually pretty good, imo. They didn't just copy and paste from the original. They took what was there and put their own spin on it. Love the scene where they're shooting celebrity zombies.

Other than that, the list of horror movies i like looks pretty similar to yours. :)

My favorites are: Night of the Living Dead, Nightmare on Elm Streets 1&3, Demons, and Halloween. In all truth though I love all the classic Horror Series. Friday the 13th is awesome, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist, House (which I haven't seen in years), Prom Night, etc. are all great fun.

I very rarely talk about much other than games on here, but 9 out of 10 movies that my wife and I watch are horror... if you catch me on IRC some night I'm sure we'll end up blabbing about them.

Wow, that's cool your wife watches horror movies. I have a hell of time getting my wife to watch horror films. She didn't do too well with the Halloween remake, she was bothered by the animal deaths since she is an animal lover, as am I but I can look past it for the most part. My horror movie collection is nowhere near as big as my video game collection but it's up there.

I forgot about zombie flicks. I think my favorite series is The Return of the Living Dead! Romero's zombie films are a close second, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead (the original and the 80s version), Land of the Dead, etc. I also have a strange love for inanimate objects coming to life to kill in horror films like in films like: Puppet Master, Dolls, Child's Play, etc. Another love I have is for small creature features like: Critters, Ghoulies, Gremlins etc. Overall I think I like the slasher genre for horror films the most, epecially the 80s! There is just/was something about that time period that makes these movies so special for me. I guess because I was a little kid and I wasn't supposed to be watching them and was sneaking them into the VCR (yes I said VCR! ) with my sick little friends in the 80s! I'll never forget watching the original Friday the 13th in 1983 and instantly falling in love with it and I was only 6! I can go on forever so I'll stop...for now!

I'm an old school horror fan, don't like any of the new stuff. My favorite is the Evil Dead trilogy. I also really like all the classic zombie movies like Return of the Living Dead and the original Night of the Living Dead. Basically any old horror movie with zombies or really gross over the top blood and guts that you can tell is fake but is still terribly disgusting.

I like horror movies, but much like survival horror games(which I also like)I haven't really experienced that many of them. I have loved some of the ones I have seen though such as:

Evil Dead 2
It's part comedy sure, but it did have its creepy moments. This is one I can watch over and over again. Bruce Campbell is wonderfully entertaining and they did some nifty stuff like that long shot of the "thing" chasing him

28 Days Later
They did a great job with the characters in this one. Really enjoyed seeing Christopher Eccleston in this(before this I had only seen him as the new doctor in the Doctor Who reboot). The whole part of the story with the soldiers was interesting and like many classic horror movies shows how a post apocalyptic world can bring out the worse in people. I absolutely love this music theme by John Murphy and how the movie used it:

It creates a wonderful desperate, unsettling and borderline insane mood

28 Weeks Later
The more action packed counterpart to 28 Days Later's more character based story, but it still was very entertaining if you can enjoy a horror movie that is more of an action packed, suspenseful thrill ride.

The Descent
I didn't find it that scary, but I loved seeing the girls kicking monster ass later in the movie. I found the movie more entertaining than scary

Ju-On: The Grudge
This movie creeped me the hell out! Japanese horror is very effective

The Ring(2002 American remake)
That classic scene towards the end of the movie with her and the tv. At the time, that scene really unsettled me

Cloverfield
A nice modern godzilla movie. I'm not entirely sure if it's horror, but it had some horror cliches. Oddly enough, one of the things I loved about the movie is the notion of this guy risking his life for a girl he barely knows and his friends coming along with him. That movie really brings out the best of the human spirit whereas many horror movies tend to show people at their worst

The Mist
I loved the grim surprise at the end, which actually felt like some kind of dark humor. The whole mist concept was cool. Walking out into this fog having NO idea what you are going to encounter. This movie pops into my head anytime I'm driving to work early in the morning and there is a heavy fog everywhere

Funny Horror:
Shaun of the Dead, Army of Darkness and Zombieland were all immensely entertaining I thought. Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror was wonderful, cheesy fun too. Bubba Hotep is great too. Bruce Campbell as Elvis is pure comedy gold.

As a side note, I like tv shows that feature monsters, vampires, etc. when they are done right. I'm a huge fan of Supernatural, Buffy and Angel.

Indeed a great movie. In fact the first movie in the series, Night of the Living Dead, and it's sequel, Day of the Dead (the 1985 film, not the horrible 2000s zombie film that has the same name, but is not the same movie) are fan-freaking-tastic movies as well. Romero knows his zombies.

In response to the OP, I love horror movies as well. I grew up on them. I used to frequent the horror sections of my local video rental store constantly where I grew up. I'd always come back from the video store with Terminator 2: Judgment Day and new horror film.

Some of my favorites:

-Cloverfield
-Dawn of the Dead (Both the original and the remake are good)
-Day of the Dead (1985, not the crappy 2000s one)
-Dracula 2000 (I know, completely trendy, but I was 16 years old when it came out, so trendy worked on me)
-Event Horizon
-Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
-Friday the 13th Remake (I know nostalgia has a lot to do with people liking it, but the original first film in the series is really poorly made, even by early 80s standards)
-The Lost Boys
-The Monster Squad (Wolfman has nards!)
-Night of the Demons (Original, the recent remake doesn't hold a candle to the original)
-Night of the Living Dead (Both the original and the remake are good)
-A Nightmare on Elm Street 1-4 & 6 (I hate #5, and I hate the remake)
-Resident Evil 1 & 2
-Return of the Living Dead 1 & 2
-Shaun of the Dead
-Tales From the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight
-The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original and Remake)
-Underworld (Okay, action movie, but it has horror elements and it's freaking awesome)
-Wes Craven's New Nightmare
