I truly suck with Arcade sticks.

I'm like Breetai, I actually do better with fighting games using a d pad over an analog stick.

Its because of this that I actively avoid fighting games whenever I'm at an actual arcade, just because I'm so terrible with a stick that I'd be wasting my money.

Good example: I love Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and I'm good at it when playing at home. I always get excited (stupidly) to discover an MVC2 machine here and there, but I never bother to play it, because suddenly I suck horribly.

Like others have said, it depends on the particular game and which one works best for you. Just because the original arcade version of Metal Slug used arcade style controls, doesn't automatically make it superior to a game pad. How many arcade games actually use a console style game pad? None that I can think of. Even for a game where it could be better, they would use arcade style controls just because it's an arcade game.

Use whatever controller you want to use, but keep an open mind and consider that there might be a better way to play it. The top fighting game players all seem to use arcade sticks, so if you are playing fighting games with a game pad, maybe you should spend a few weeks and try to adjust to one yourself.

I think thats a fairly common issue. I go through the same thing.

I grew up on NES, Genesis, and SNES. D-Pad all the way for me. It is a part of my gaming nature. I never did like arcade sticks much. But dang do they look cool, it doesn't get any classier than the NES Advantage.

Beg to differ.

Frankly the NES Advantage is one of the most overrated piece of crap sticks I've ever had the displeasure of using.

Did you read my whole post, or just focus on that one line? I was talking about the way it looked.

It really depends on the game you're playing. I have the NES Advantage joystick, and I enjoy using it to play games such as Super C and Ikari Warriors, but it can cause frustration whille playing games like Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle and the Terminator. They seem better suited for arcade ports such as Street Fighter and Contra.

Pfft good luck doing the challenges on SSFIV or SFIV for that matter without a stick. Personally I need a big chunky stick just so I can hear the rhythm. I don't press the buttons, I slap the shit out of them. If you look at any pro players (I'm not saying I'm anywhere near that standard) they do it as well. I do the same in bemani, absolutely slap the fuck out of those buttons. It's the only way I can keep time.
