Even Speilberg can be ruined by the Wii
<Rant warning>
So the news about one of the Steven Speilberg's new collaborations with EA came out today, and here it is.
http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/17414
It's called Bloom Blox, and basically, it's a combination of the Jenga and the toss-the-ball-at-the-bottle game you play at the carnival, with cartoon colors and controller waggle. So we wait to find out what Speilberg's creativity and EA's resources could come up with and ... it's a fucking collection of mini-games. Can you ever imagine that such a game would be released for the Wii?!? Shock. And. Awe.
It seems that even Speilberg cannot be pulled away from the gaping mini-game black hole of suckage that is the Wii. Now, mind you that I was a huge believer in the potential of the Wii concept when it was announced. It roused the long-dormant Nintendo fan inside me. Seriously, I'm not a Nintendo-hater. I own and treasure nearly 100 NES games. I wrote about that very thing on my now-defunct gaming blog nearly two years ago.

And for the record, I never believed that Speilberg's games would be any good. Movies are not games, and games are not movies. I kind of always figured they'd be a let-down. But I just find it hugely ironic that when the news of a Steven Speilberg game finally comes out, it's just another mini-game title.
Yes, I fully realize the Wii isn't geared toward hardcore gamers (or even mildly enthusiast gamers) and I realize some of of the folks on this board probably love their Wii (especially the virtual console games) but I can't help but think that eventually the Wii is going to turn into the Atari 2600 circa 1982 -- so chock full of craptastic software that it turns the very mainstream audience it built up in preceding years away from ANY kind of gaming for years afterward. For all the hype, I can't help but feel animosity toward the white waggle box.

I do love my Wii, but there is a ton of shovelware on it. However I believe the PS3 and 360 are plagued with it as well, maybe we just live in an Atari 2600 type era where studios keep pumping out crappy games, but I would like to think it's not quite that bad. About Spielberg's game; it seems very un-epic of him, I can't help but think of grandiose sci-fi, fantasy, and story-telling that he is used to. Who in the hell cares about this game that simply looks like a puzzle game. I'm not sure if I feel great about this generation of gaming, but I am surely glad of all the previous ventures that the industry has gone through, which of course is why I'm here at racketboy.com and happy burning my eyes out with my Virtual Boy.

I saw video of this at E3 I think. I'm not really sure if it was the same game but it sounds like its the same. Looks like absolute garbage.
To be honest I think that Speilberg is a complete moron and his venture into gaming is only strengthening my arguement. I believe that it was him that said video games haven't yet been able to make people cry. Man, considering that he knows that he knows nothing about video games he should really shut his mouth on the topic. I hope this game (but more importantly) this other game which he believes will make people cry are terrible and tarnish his reputation.

a) The Dig ruled. I used to play that on my old Apple.
b) Was Speilberg really needed for this? They couldn't have come up with this on their own? I mean, anyone can make movies about dinosaurs, but Speilberg made Jurassic Park! Anyone can made a puzzle game, and- wow, Speilberg had a hand in on this?
Maybe I'm just missing the dinosaurs.

High-Brow Gag & Pure Shooting
Oh shock, Speilberg actually decided to design a GAME rather than a rejected movie idea with game mechanics slapped onto it! Watch the new trailer, it makes it look far more interesting than some lazy mini game collection: this is actually a very in-depth looking puzzle game and looks to use the controls well, and a very elaborate level creator with online sharing abilities. See some more of it before you throw into the shovelware pile.
Also, I fucking hate this "anyone could make a puzzle game" thing that's spending around like a disease. because just anyone could have come up with Tetris, right?

videogame made by EA and Spielberg sucks? Not surprised...
Spielberg doesn't make videogames... just because Van Gogh could paint, would you let him build your house? Of course there is a chance it might come out pretty good, but are you riding on that?
And EA doesn't know how to make anything other than sport games.

Like I said, I'm not surprised a Speilberg game would be underwhelming. I thought as much. I just find it ironic that he gets involved with the Wii and the game seems pretty much like every other Wii game out there.
It does look like it could have potential. I just think it's funny that it's a block tossing game.
