Astal Saturn

Post by nick944 »

How good is this game? I saw the article about it being a saturn hidden gem and saw a few youtube videos. I just ordered a copy from amazon yesterday.

Played it, pretty good game. Plays a bit like rayman. The real draw of it though (oh look a pun), is the hand drawn animation. It really makes the game come alive and makes me happy i own a saturn.

I can't seem to get very far, but it is extremely fun and a second player can control your bird companion which makes this good for gaming when with a girlfriend (or I guess friend in general, but I personally don't have many friends besides my g/f who are interested in 2D platformers)

It's very, very good. It's get surprisingly challenging in some parts. The bird helper is very cool because it can do different things to help you in different situations. While everyone will tell you about the game's amazing graphics and some of the cool visual tricks the game pulls off, I have to mention the soundtrack. Listen to the music in the cave with the bats. Fantastic music.

Now this is never a turnoff for me with any game I play, but I should mention that Astal is kind of short. However, the game is quality through and through. Decent story for a platformer too.

Playing Astal will really make you feel sad that the Saturn didn't get more platformers. Astal is just a taste of what the console was capable of with this genre.

Is there a save function? or do you just start again everytime you play? I can't wait to get this game!
