Re: Confessions of an Adult Poke-addict
I love pokemon. I had every gb one up until emerald came out, third season lost my interest. My gameboy was a pokemon machine until a few years ago. I would beat red, blue or yellow on a weekly basis just for fun. I still remember all those stats that doesn't even matter anymore. I still have about 800 pokemon cards and would play the trading card game (way easier than the yugioh card game). I saw the first few movies in theaters and watched the tv show. Heck, i even have a charizard pushie on top of my tv. By the time I'm 30, I'll love pokemon the same way I do now. Pokemon got me into gaming, and I'm proud of it

Re: Confessions of an Adult Poke-addict
I just turned 22 and I admit I really enjoy playing pokemon. I would be lying though if I said I wasn't a little embarrassed about playing it. I take a bus back to school when I'm home and its a 6 1/2 hour bus ride and I always want to play pokemon Heart Gold so fucking bad, but would be embarrassed if anybody saw me play. I could see someone asking me what I was playing, and then I'd say Pokemon and my face gets all red with embarrassment.
I could always say pokemon bitch you got a problem with that? Pokemon is how the baller's ball and the player's play son

Re: Confessions of an Adult Poke-addict
No reason to get embarrassed about doing something you enjoy that harms no one. Just a year ago, I brought a green GBA SP and Pokemon Yellow to the dentist and played it in the waiting room, and also in the actual patient chair when I was waiting for something. I was 27 or 28 at the time, and I didn't give a fuck what people thought about it.Metal Militia wrote:I just turned 22 and I admit I really enjoy playing pokemon. A few months ago I bought the same Game Boy to a different doctor and played Super Mario Land on it. I made it pretty far into the game and had a lot of fun playing it.
Enjoy yourself. If someone thinks less of you because you are having fun with a childish toy, that's their problem.

Re: Confessions of an Adult Poke-addict
I'm 22 and Pokemon was all the rage when I was growing up. I got Pokemon Red for Christmas in 1998 from my aunt I had no idea what it was but I slid that cart in and it didn't come out for a very long time. I took my Gameboy everywhere with me the only game I brought with me was Pokemon. We traded the cards in school everyday (everyone traded those damn cards); hell I still have all my cards in card protectors. Watched the show and saw Pokemon The First Movie four times just to get all the promo cards. Even ate at Burger King as much as possible to get the Pokeball toys, lol. I played until Sapphire and Ruby. Then picked it back up over the 2009 summer with Pokemon Diamond. Can't wait for Black and White! I admit it to everyone that I still play and love Pokemon; don't bash it till you try it

jeez, maybe I should sell my CIB Pokemon Yellow GBC system with pack-in game. Maybe. It looks fucking awesome on my shelf. But y'know. I don't really think I'm a Poke-fan.

I am someone that has always thought Pokemon is for kids. The cartoons were coming out in the US when I was an adolescent, and I found them obnoxious, so I never bothered with the games. I have noticed that many racketboy members love their Pokemon though and I have seen that some of the best selling games of all time are Pokemon games. I have also heard that many of the Shin Megami Tensei demon collecting and fusion gameplay mechanics are similar to Pokemon games, and I love Shin Megami Tensei, so I would be willing to give Pokemon a shot.
If I were to play just one, which one should it be? (I have all the Nintendo consoles except the Wii or handhelds, and I have a PS2) Anything I should get for those?

No handhelds? That really cuts down the number of options.J T wrote: If I were to play just one, which one should it be? (I have all the Nintendo consoles except the Wii or handhelds, and I have a PS2) Anything I should get for those?
Get Pokemon Stadium for N64. Get a Transfer Pak. Get Pokemon Yellow. Play the Super Game Boy in Pokemon Stadium to level up your Pokemon. Use them to beat teams in Pokemon Stadium.
'Tis simple.

The only "real" Pokémon games are on handhelds so you would only have the "Fight in improved 3D enviroments" games like Pokémon Stadium.J T wrote:If I were to play just one, which one should it be? Well, you also have Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD but they change many gameplay basics like the fact you can't capture Pokémon, you steal them fom other trainers. (Because they are evil pokémon or something, not because you are a dick)
You also have three options to play Pokemon without a handheld. I think that the more modern the game, the better.
The first one is using the Super Game Boy add-on for the Super Nintendo. With it you can play all the first and second generation games except for Crystal since it required a Game Boy Color.
If you have a trasfer pack, get Pokemon Stadium 2 (Not the first one, the second!). You can play the first and second generations on it, while the first Stadim game only allows you to play the first. The first generation consists of Red, Blue and Yellow while the second consists of Gold, Silver and Crystal. While the jump to Yellow is not very big, Crystal adds an interesting sidequest where you chase a mythological pokemon around the world.
Then you can also play the GBA games with the GBAplayer add-on for the Gamecube. This allows you to play the first, second and third generation of games. There's a remake of Red and Blue for GBA, that would be my pick called Fire Red and Leaf Green. It would let you play the originals with improved menus and visuals while also keeping the improved mechanics of the later games like weather, a bigger movelist and abilities.
So, in conclusion
Best choice: Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green (GBA through the Gameboy Player)
Second Best: Pokemon Crystal (through Pokémon Stadium 2 N64)
Third Best: Pokémon Silver/Gold (through the SNES)

Gold/Silver were for the Color only if I recall correctly, meaning it wouldn't work with the Super Game Boy.General_Norris wrote:Third Best: Pokémon Silver/Gold (through the SNES)J T wrote:If I were to play just one, which one should it be? If you have a Game Boy Player, that would be easiest. They're $10 at GameStop.
