Re: Favorite Heavy Metal Bands?
So far, I've mainly listened to Individual Thought Patterns and Human (this one considered to be Death's greatest by so many of their fans). I hear Leprosy is also another great one -- might want to give that one a try myself.
Re: Favorite Heavy Metal Bands?
Human is my personal favorite, with Individual Thought Patterns behind it. All of their albums each have their own great aspects of course. My favorite off Symbolic is probably 1,000 Eyes or Misanthrope.
On a side note, I see a lot of Opeth fans here. Any of you hear of Be'lakor? They're relatively new and have a really great sound that is remniscent of Opeth in some ways. Try giving this song a listen.

I have the Control Denied album too, btw.
Controled Denied - Fragile art of exsitence is going to be released in 2cd and 3cd sets with demos and even some with Chuck singing.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.
Re: Favorite Heavy Metal Bands?
Yeah I read about that not long ago. I don't know if I'm going to pick that one up or not, since I already have the disc anyhow.
What I'm really waiting for is the finally-completed Control Denied - When Man and Machine Collide that's supposed to come out who-knows-when.

Bump. Let's keep the metal going, fellas!
Anyway, anyone into the American band Dokken? I find that they stand out much better as a band with their own unique sound than the majority of L.A. hard rock/heavy metal bands.

Rob Zombie doesn't get enough love, he's done some awesome stuff. I only know of 3 Inches of Blood from Brutal Legend, but those songs were great

Re: Favorite Heavy Metal Bands?
What do you guys think of these "Nu Metal" bands?
I used to like them in my early teens, then I started listening to Thrash and Traditional Heavy Metal and sort of left "Nu Metal" behind. I later started going on Metal forums and they were filled with hatred for these Nu Metal bands and of course, being a guy who's awkward in High School, I conformed to these opinions in order to fit in. Later on, I kind of mellowed out on my dislike for these bands but I would still comment that they weren't Metal whenever I saw a post mentioning Slipknot in a Metal forum (or a thread like this one). Well, I have this habit of confirming my opinions, I guess you can say. If I say that I hate something, I'll probably go back to it and see if my opinion has changed (I've done this wit some Slayer songs).
Well, I recently listened to some of these "Nu Metal" songs and... they weren't bad. Some of them I actually liked (SlipKnot's Duality and Disturbed's Stupify Come to Mind) and hell, some of the songs I've listened to were undeniably Metal (Disturbed's Asylum and MushroomHead's Ego Trip comes to mind) falling under Groove Metal. I'm not sure if I would call these "Metal bands" since bands like MushroomHead don't just play Metal. I haven't listened to their discographies so I can't say "They've played mostly Metal so they're a Metal band." I have some theories as to why "Nu Metal" has been so vehemently despised, but I'll save those for another time. Now that I've wasted your time by having you read this, I'll sum this all up in a few words: I'm glad that I opened my mind.

Some I like, some I don't; for various reasons.
I'm Christian, so I WON'T listen to Marilyn Manson who is quite anti-Christian. I don't like Limp Bizkit or Korn, just because I don't like the metal-rap hybrid style.
However I do like Sevendust, Coal Chamber, Disturbed, Kittie, and especially Mudvayne. Rob Zombie got popular in that same era, even though he was around longer when his band was White Zombie. I like Rob Zombie, too.

I'll occasionally hear some nu-metal or mainstream bands on the radio when I'm driving around in my car. Sometimes I'll hear some thing I like, but I don't ever seek out nu-metal music when I am looking for stuff for my ipod. I don't HATE nu metal, but a lot of it doesn't appeal to me. I'll openly admit to having liked some of Korn's music and Linkin Park's Hybrid theory, so I really can't say I hate nu metal without sounding like a hypocrite. We all have our guilty pleasures. I like Disturbed too, but I don't usually group them with nu metal. They seem to bounce back and forth between traditional metal and hard rock to me, but I'm not a music expert.
