How can I determine which model my sega saturn is?

Post by SFK »

I stumbled across this site a few weeks ago after dreaming about modding my Saturn for years now. I read about different models before I dug my old saturn out of the closet. It appeared to be a model 1 as the buttons are oval and the manufacture date is July 1995.

Rather than deal with attempting to mod my old model 1 Saturn, I grabbed a cheap Saturn off ebay after the seller told me that the buttons were round and the manufacture date was September 1996. It arrived today and I started doing some more research. Apparently, some round button Saturns are model 1 Saturns and it is impossible to know what type Saturn you may have unless you open it up.

I have no problem opening up my Saturn, but I am not sure what I need to look for. I tried to google for a guide, but I am not having much luck. I searched google with "What model Saturn do I have?", "Determine what model sega saturn" and a few other variations that yielded nothing.

I searched around on racket boy's site but I still cannot find what I am looking for. I apologize if a guide is posted somewhere here, but I could not find it. (it's late, maybe I am just not seeing it)

Can someone point me to a site or give me some directions as to how I can determine which model Saturn I have?

Any help is appreciated. :)

If teh buttons are round then its a model 2 (unless people are swapping the insides). now to determine which model 2 verision you have I used here:

Thats where I figured out which I have.
