Game Gears are good little handhelds, the best in their time. However, don't pay much for them. They are notorious for not standing the test of time and things wearing out. My Game Gear in particular suffers from this. The speakers have gone down to a whisper and no louder. However there's a work-around since the headphone jack is still works fine. I've also heard of screens fading.

If it's feasible, buy it in person so you can test it. If you buy it Ebay, just beware that you may not get a 100% working system.

The games are good. Not as large of a library as Gameboy, but good. A lot Master System ports, and some original games. I highly recommend getting "The Master Converter" which allows you to play Master System cartidges on your Game Gear.

Some good Game Gear games:
-Columns (Tetris/Dr. Mario rip-off, but still fun)
-Cool Spot
-Mega Man (Rare)
-Ristar
-Shinobi 1 & 2
-Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2
-Sonic Chaos
-Space Harrier
-Spider-Man
-Streets of Rage 1 & 2

Some good Master System Games (To play on your Master Converter):
-After Burner
-Altered Beast
-Batman Returns
-Cloud Master
-Columns
-Double Dragon
-Golden Axe
-Golden Axe: Warrior (Sega's Legend of Zelda)
-Ninja Gaiden
-R-Type
-Shinobi
-Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2
-Space Harrier
-Streets of Rage 1 & 2

You like Sonic Drift? I've heard nothing but bad things about it, so I wouldn't mind hearing your opinion on it. Columns is a game I generally forget exists. It's OK, but nothing special. I much prefer Puyo Puyo for puzzle games on Sega machines. Mean Bean Machine is on Game Gear too right?

I'd never heard of ninku or pop breaker before, but they don't look like my sort of thing really.
With Sonic Drift, I tend to enjoy mindless racing games. Compared to Mario Kart... it doesn't come close. Still, I tend to like games that other people think are shitty sometimes. :D

I like Puyo Puyo more than Columns also, but Columns is a staple Game Gear game! When I got my first Game Gear in 1991 or 1992 (I forget), it came with Columns and Sonic 1. Needless to say, I played A LOT of Columns. Puyo Puyo 1 and 2 are on the Game Gear in Japan. I don't know if the Mean Bean Machine ever came out or not, but it would guess that it did.

PAL regions and Japan only I believe. Not that it matters for playing the game though thankfully. Definitely great games and Halley Wars is pretty fun too.

I'd be more interested in a console that could play Game Gear games than in an actual Game Gear to play them on, sadly. If only the Master System had enough colors in its palette for an adapter to be feasible.

I thought Sonic Triple trouble was the best of the game gear ones. They're all pretty good though. Sonic 2 is rediculously hard. Check out Tails' Adventure. Doesn't play like other sonic games but it's pretty fun.

Well, emulators on quite a few systems can fit that need. The Wii is one of them. It's too bad no console can play the physical carts, though. Sega should've made an adapter for the Genesis.

go ahead and get one! you can find them out in the wild cheap, but usualy the screen is scratched up. Theres some fun games out there like others have said. I dont have to repeat what games others have said.

Gamegears are region free, at least with JP games.

Gamegear uses Sega Genesis Cords with theYELLOW tip from model 2! NOT MODEL 1! There also exists a car socket adapter for it too, for that retro trip on the road! 8)

Games are easy to find, but they are never complete! the paper boxes were throw away like nintendo's were

The only thing I dont like about them is that the screen is pretty crappy! you have the contrast luckily, but you have to find the right angle to play it with, aka the sweet spot.

its a cool piece of gaming history here!

Japanese models use the Genesis/Mega Drive model 1 adapter. I just thought I'd point that out again. Does anyone know about EU/AU Game Gears?
