A pet peeve I have is that English speakers do not know the meaning of the world "penultimate".

Yeah, they always seem to forget the pen prefix has a very important meaning in this context.

You know what really pisses me off? People trying to use big words to sound smart but completely misunderstanding their definitions. So they end up sounding even more stupid than they did in the first place.
