And how is the Apple employee telling him that his Mac meets the minimum system requirements an issue with the end user?

Isn't this illegal? he basically lied to a customer.

I know there are 3rd-party programs that allow data syncing to iDevices. On my Linux system, I use Banshee; it works quite nicely.

I was going to tell you to use a pc if you have one around

the hard truth is that apple cuts support for their systems so early, don't know why. 5 years for any Apple product is ancient, not old, although the system runs pretty well.

I am afraid to say it might be your fault for not looking up the requirements for the iPhone 4. If the Apple employee told you that you do, then its their fault not yours.

all in all Apple SHOULD support all their systems at least for 7 years.

The story I got was that you have to upgrade to Leopard before you can upgrade to Snow Leopard. They told me it costs $170 to upgrade to Leopard and that I would have to pay the $30 for Snow Leopard after that. By paying $130 I get Leopard and Snow Leopard plus iWork and iLife (or something along those lines). I have since discovered that this is BS and apparently it is possible to upgrade straight to Snow Leopard from my current OS. I also doubt that it costs $170 to upgrade to Leopard. I am not so pissed to have to upgrade my RAM as I wanted to eventually do that anyway.

Oh and I meant to say that the dude who brought out our new iPhones kept the boxes throughout the entire sale and he even opened them for us. At the end of the sale he put them in the bag for us so we didn't even see the boxes until we got home. That's when we saw the system requirements... sounds a bit odd with hindsight.

Just to follow up, received and installed my new RAM today. Went from 512 mb to 2 gb and the change is amazing. I heard I probably wouldn't notice anything because I have an older stupid Mac, but its great. I also am happy to have upgraded to Snow Leopard as I like it much more than Tiger. I am still angry that I was told I had to pay $130 when apparently a lot of people only paid $30. Time to move on from that though. ITunes upgrade, iPhone 4 synced and working great.

Just in case you weren't aware, anything you do to your PC/MAC that is quadruple the previous amount/power, you will notice a huge difference. :D
Glad the phone is working. Now you gotta go get Dodonpachi Resurrection if you like shooters. :)

Congrats on the working iPhone... They're awesome little techie-toys that you'll no doubt have a blast playing with!

A side note: Isn't it funny how anything named after a feline tends to infuriate it's target audience more than accommodate them..?

*cough, Jaguar, cough*

Wait are you talking about Jaguar, the old school LAN I used to use to connect to the internet? That thing helped me realize CDs could be used as frizbees.

He still listened to a sales rep... They're all bullshitters. That's their job. They're supposed to up-sell, they're supposed to make you spend more money. This is the reason why you spend 20 minutes doing the research online for yourself (and your wallet) and avoid having to deal with this bullshit.
