Re: working designs ?
WD were the kings of premium packaging. Heavy duty manuals, foil, embossing, etc. Another thing to think about in relation to them changing things up a bit is that there was a precedence for this already with anime. Robotech in the US was an amalgamation of Macross, Mospaeda, and Southern Cross and while there was anime shown in the US before this, Robotech was really the catalyst for major interest. Voltron was sort of bashed together from Golion and Dairugger XV. Albegas would have been shoehorned into the continuity as well except that Vehicle Voltron wasn't as popular as Lion Voltron so they stopped.

Re: working designs ?
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the tweaking of Lunar (1or2) Complete difficulty that negates grinding. I like grinding to level characters up when, but WD evened that out when bringing the Saturn remakes over to the US PS1. WD implemented some kind of math style equation that allowed each enemies attack to be a multiple of the character's level or stats.
I loved Working Designs for bringing games over and LUNAR is still my favorite RPG ever... but I was annoyed with the removal of grinding as an advantage in the remakes.

Maybe that's one of the reasons some friends I recently talked to both said they preferred the Sega CD version of Lunar 2, but they both favored the PSX version of Lunar.SpaceBooger wrote:I'm surprised nobody mentioned the tweaking of Lunar (1or2) Complete difficulty that negates grinding. I think WD did a great job localizing their rpgs. Lunar is a godsend
The shmups, not so much. Doesnt bother me one bit, seeing as most shmups are already playable in japanese, unlike the tons of rpgs they brought us
Best packaging by a mile in my books
