Hi,
I'm having a bit of a problem installing my Modchip..
I've followed the instructions on where to put the Red Wire, which went well.. but I'm having some trouble with the blue wire. The CD-ROM that I have on my Saturn is different (light brown PCB, rather than a green PCB).
In that case, where would I put on my blue wire? I tried connecting (as said on a video tutorial) to connect the A and the B connector to each other and it would work. Everything else concerning normal games are working. When I try to run a burned CDR backup, my Saturn keeps trying to read the disc and doesn't get past the Audio disc player.
Anyone else run into this issue?
Thanks!
Sega Saturn Mod Chip Issue...
Re: Sega Saturn Mod Chip Issue...
So the chip is installed using the A+B method and retail discs are playing fine? This is a good sign, and usually just means that the burns are bad but the chip is fine. I suggest checking out this guide:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/hacks/20 ... tware.html
It will go over how to successfully burn a game. But also, the guide talks about how to test your image in an emulator first to verify that it's good, and how to check the region to make sure it can boot on your console.
When you put a burned game in and it doesn't boot, what message do you get? Does it say "game disc unsuitable for this console" or does it just give the audio tracks? If you get the unsuitable message, the image and burn are good but the region is wrong. If it just displays audio tracks, it could be a bad image or a bad burn.

Hi,
I skimmed the guide, I'm actually using Linux and K3B to burn my bin/cue images. I'm trying a different image, hopefully that will work..
So, the modchip doesn't make it so I can play different region games on my Saturn?

Modchip lets you play burns. Action Replay/STKey/Etc let you play imports. If you don't have a cart, you'd need to change the region to US before burning the image. Saturn Region Patcher is out there for Windows, not sure of any other OS options like Linux.3vix6 wrote: So, the modchip doesn't make it so I can play different region games on my Saturn?

Even if you're using Linux, you can still use the guide for information. All the crucial things will be the same (burn speed, etc). You'll just have to use different software, but the the process is still the same.
Like Hobie said, the chip wont allow you to boot imports. The only way to play an import on a chipped console is to change the region and play it on a burned CD (aside from using an AR).
If you can't run Saturn Region Patcher in Linux, is there any emulators you can use? If you can use an emulator, you can hard set the region to match your console then try and boot the game and see what happens. Additionally, you can can set the emulator to auto detect the region and boot the game and try to view which region that game is that way.
Can you run Saturn Region Patcher in WINE? You probably will need Sega CUE Maker also. Though if you can't get it to run in Linux and need a CUE, you can get a friend with Windows to make it for you and send it to you (CUE files are very small).
