Indie hits are selling well

Post by J T »

Minecraft just reached the 1 million units sold mark according to Notch's blog.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent just reached 200,000 units sold (double what they hoped for) according to the Frictional Games blog.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale sold over 100,000 units in December according to Carpe Fulgur's blog

Terry Cavanagh reported on his blog that he sold 3000 units of VVVVVV BEFORE he launched on Steam back in September, and though he's not allowed to discuss his Steam sales figures, he is quite happy with the result.

I'm not sure how many copies of Super Meat Boy have sold, but surely they are doing well and they look happy and active over on the Team Meat blog.

So these may not be the kind of sales one hopes for with a Call of Duty, but they are developing amazing games at a tiny fraction of the cost and doing quite well for themselves. It was a great year for indie games in 2010.

Judging from the leaderboards, Super Meat Boy sold at least 100.000 units only on PC.

I have every game mentioned in the OP (plus I bought some for friends as well) so I did my part! I really love how the Indie scene has been getting better!

It really was a great year for indie games. I posted links to their blogs in the original post because it is fun to see how excited and proud the developers are. I don't think any of these guys expected to sell as many copies as they did.

There's a game I downloaded on the Xbox 360 called Nasty and I think it's great (especially for a buck). 100 levels of cartoony Contra-style levels, one screen each.

Indie games will keep getting stronger, they are cheap to make, cheap to buy and offer gamers an alternative. The wii offers alternative games like this too (boy and his blob) but they have the high price.
