I have gone since 7:30 AM without hot or cold water!

So my apartment building said they would have to conduct emergency maintenance on a water main today, starting a 7:30 in the morning on a Friday, which, IMO, is a dumb time to maintenance since that's right when people like to get ready for work. For me that wasn't a big deal, as I don't have to work today. My girlfriend is a different story. We meant to set aside some water and shower the night before, but inevitably forgot until this morning to find out the water was all off.

So she got some water out of a filter in the fridge to brush her teeth and wash her face off, and goes on her way. Now the notice they gave us told us that they would have cold water restored by 9:30AM and hot water by mid to late afternoon. So I figured I could deal until then. Well by noon, when the cold water wasn't turned on it became apparent they weren't turning the water on anytime soon. So my gf called the apartment management to ask what was going on. She coped a really snobby attitude, saying that she didn't know when the water would be back on and just to wait.

Well 1:30 roles around and still no water. Now I decided I was tired of laying in filth and I'd like to put in my contacts, which is much easier if I've washed my face, so I boiled some water (had a few gallons of distilled lying around for retro game cleaning purposes!) and washed with that. I can tell you, wash cloths are essential! Anyway, I feel surprisingly clean, but here is its 2:30, and still no water for 7 hours! I've heard of water mains that are broke getting fixed faster than this, and this is just maintenance.

Oh and to add, I haven't been able to flush the toilet either. Thank god the only things I've had to do were able to mellow.

They replaced a pipe in my apartment, ripped out a whole wall for it in our hall closet... and never came to pick up all the debris. I had to clean it up myself.

I was once on a US Navy ship with a broken water generation system and 450 smelly dudes aboard. No one was able to use water except officers and food handlers for about two weeks. Now THAT sucked.

I just had my water off on Wednesday. A water main broke somewhere near my house. It was back up and running within a few hours.

When I used to live in an apartment, our water suddenly stopped working one day and it took them several hours to fix it. One of my roommates had to shit, so he walked to the Target store that was very close to us. Problem solved.

Getting the runaround from management would piss me off, And after so long i'd wonder if the delays are legit or if maintenance knows what the fuck their doing. Lesson learned, don't slack off and forget to prepare.

Had a frozen pipe burst once when renting a small second floor studio. Only damage to my stuff was not water related, the landlord stepped right on a PS2 Dual Shock when he made a beeline for the bathroom to turn the water off.

Yeah I'm pissed I didn't prepare better. But we're nearing the 9 hour mark now.

I got stuck in a hot gator and mosquito filled swamp overnight in Florida with no (drinkable) water with 2 friends once. We lived.

But I know what you mean. I've never had water maintenance take that long before, but I have forgotten to take a shower the night before or fill some containers with water to tide me over.

Sometimes the water would shut off for 15 minutes when Engineering was switching tanks, seemed to always happen when in the shower full of soap. Here's one anyone who served on an Aircraft Carrier will remember. Once in a while, JP5 jet fuel in the drinking water. Damn snipes!
