Only arcade mode, with the infinite continues. My last run through story ended on 5A I believe. Awesome game, but man this game is freakishly hard. The one time I managed to get past the whole battleship boss fight part of 5A without dying I felt like I had climbed Mt. Everest or something.

i beat it, but i had clocked in about 5 hours of play time on my save, which gives you an extra continue for each hour. that's not considered cheating, right?

Is it harder than Ikaruga? Sadly I have never played the game and until better Saturn emulators exist probably never will.

I played a little bit of Ikaruga on the Gamecube. To me it seems harder. It seems to move much faster than RS. Plus the color switching is so hard to get used to. Theoretically, it SHOULD be easier than Radiant Silvergun since you can basically make yourself invincible at any time, but it seemed harder to me. I can stay alive longer in RS.

Plus RS lets you keep your continues and weapon power ups whenever your game ends and you have to start over.

I find both games freakishly hard though

SSF is great, and runs alomst perfectly with most Saturn games.

It's easy to assume Ikaruga is easy considering you can make yourself absorb enemy shots, but in fact the game is well designed and there's always enough stuff to kill whether you are black or white (truly, this is not a racist game :P Sorry for the bad joke!). I wouldn't really say you can "make yourself invincible" except in some parts of the game (the first boss fight is a good example, in the 3 stages you can reasonably be invincible - although if you want more score you have to risk being opposite color anyway).

Yeah, that's all true. Ikaruga seems beyond my abilities though, even Radiant Silvergun is a bit more than I can handle as I haven't finished story mode yet. I tell you shmups just rape me. I keep trying them though in hopes of getting better, but sometimes it seems like you need to be a robot to play these games well. That's why I love run'n'gun games like Contra: Hard Corps. Once you know the level you can anticipate everything, but a lot of vertical and horizontal shmups just boil down to raw skill, which I seem to lacking
