Oh well. Their loss. Just keep in mind that when you insert a cart and it boots up first time, somewhere there are people blowing in carts in a futile attempt to get their game working.
Well you know it's all part of the nes expirience

It's the classic experience. Compressed air doesn't feel right.

Although in total seriousness, blowing into a card has been so ingrained into my mind that I caught myself blowing on an SD card last night before inserting into my laptop.

Yes, it's that bad; don't do it.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

You do that, too?

I just read what was recently going on. I can't believe they've accused someone of making duplicate accounts. While it is entirely possible that someone could do that, it's idiotic to think that it's worth going through all that trouble just to win an argument on gamespot of all sites.

And in response to this:
Jamisonia:
I don't believe for a second that posters that have blown on their carts for decades have not experienced the problems I listed, otherwise, why would you be blowing on the carts?

Note that everyone advocated blowing on carts have admitted to needing to blow on carts, Everyone advocating alcohol has attested to having no issues playing carts after cleaning. That should speak clearly and loudly.
TheTrueMagusX1:
Not really, now your back trackign your arguments. You say we have bigger problems than just blowing them out and now your saying something completely different. You just contradicted yourself......
Jamisonia:
No I didn't.
TheTrueMagusX1:
Thats all you have to say? More proof that you have no arugments to back yours. Simple as that.
"TheTrueMagusX1" has to be the physical embodiment of stupidity. You didn't contradict yourself. They have no argument left. Why do they persist?

I'd like to once again thank everyone who tried. We'll just help those who come here wanting real help. "Let the dead bury the dead" as it were.

These people are actually for blowing into a cartridge if it isn't working. I really don't know how to respond to this. I know for a fact that after cleaning a system and its games that I have virtually no trouble booting up a cartridge. I don't have to spend three minutes taking out a cart, blowing on it, reinserting the cart, repeat...

I mean... Ugh. I'm really at a loss for words. I've made some very basic outlines for cartridge maintenance and they... they actually disagree?! It's like if someone breaks a leg and you tell them to stay off of it as much as possible and they say shout back: "No! I'm going jogging!" (Sorry; that's the best analogy I have right now...)

Anyway... I think I'm pretty much done there. It isn't even that argument that gets me. It's the entire site that has problems. It's nothing but a bunch of people shouting their opinions hoping they shout louder than the person before. Also, the retro following over there is almost nonexistent. I mean when somebody asks something like: "What is the best ps1 game?" You naturally get about 24 people to say FFVII, which I don't have anything wrong with; if you like the game more power to you. But that isn't the problem... the problem is that these topics turn into arguments over something as dumb as Cloud's hair style and last for at least 4 pages. How on earth can these people argue over something so unimportant???

Conversely, you ask "what are the best ps1 games" over here and you get actual diversity in game choices, good discussion, and an overall positive attitude towards treating each other with respect regardless of our personal choices.

To keep this short: Gamespot sucks (for me... Don't know how you feel personally). You guys and gals rock for keeping the retro community alive. This site is awesome.
Look, I was the guy that started this whole thing. I'm Emerald_Warrior over there. I said that I've blown on cartridges for years without problems. I never intended it to get as ridiculous as it has though and I never intended as "your wrong and I'm right", but just that I haven't had problems. Both you, and TrueMagus are taking this whole thing completely too seriously. TrueMagus can indeed be a bit hard-headed about things. But I gotta say, starting a thread on an entirely different site about the same thing is just as ridiculous.

I mean come on guys, you Q-Tip and alcohol your cartridges, he blows in it. Let be at that. Is it really worth turning such a simple thing into something your pulling your hair out about?

...I would have said about the same on the Gamespot thread, but it seems they're VERY mod happy over there and I might have made somebody cry or something. So they got the condensed version.

The things is probably blown out of proportion, but this is the internet, it's the place to obsess over these kinds of things.

I don't think anyone is trying to force people to abandon blowing cartridges. It's just that it's obvious that blowing cartridges isn't the healthiest thing to do with your games. That someone argues in contrary or that they don't accept evidence that blowing cartridges isn't the best idea is the problem.

Sure, it might help in the short term, but cleaning them with alcohol and Q-tip doesn't damage the games like blowing has the potential of doing.

Unless you're Reptile, your saliva isn't acid that will corrode your carts instantly. But over time it does causes problems. Of course, people say they've been doing that for 20 years. Yes, that they have been doing that for 20 years is the problem, since the contacts seem to be deteriorating.

By all means, do blow your cartridges to your heart's content. Just be aware that you're not helping the game's life.

As much as I love PC Games and as much as I've heard about Rock Paper Shotgun, I really should've been there sooner. It's a great site. I've found out about 4 fames and I've only looked at that site twice.

It wasn't about just that thread in particular if you look back at the first post. It was about the site in general. I could honestly post more about gs that I don't like but it's pretty much a waste of time to do so. I'm over it. People can and will always do what they want or what they feel is right. Let them do so and I will do what I feel is right. I'm done discussing this. There isn't anything left to say.

Edit: and yes. It got waaay too overblown and became nothing but personal attacks and insults and I'm ashamed that I was the source of all the trouble. But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. Just freakin' games.
