I'd forgotten what a lot of work Panzer Dragoon Saga is...

Post by Scooter »

In searching through my old game saves, I found the Panzer Dragoon Saga save I had was corrupt and I'd basically lost my game save. Realizing it's a pretty special game I figured I owed it to myself to simply start over and try to finish the game. The game mechanics came back to me and I pretty much breezed through the first few areas, I think they are designed to teach you the basic techniques and to build your experience points. The graphics are a little dated looking, but the game play is outstanding and I love a game with a story!

Then, it became an RPG. I remember now why I don't play many RPGs, they can simply become a lot of work! In order for me to play an RPG, I have to be pulled forward by a great storyline. Luckily PDS has that. I'm probably only half way through disc 1 of 4 but if I play a few times a week I should get back to where I left off years ago. It feels good to give the ole' Saturn a workout and that new Virtua Stick I picked up recently makes playing this one a pleasant experience for my probably-gonna-have-arthritis-pretty-soon hands.

I wish a lot of you guys had this one too because I think I'm going to need some gameplay hints and tips before long! Sound off if you've played this one so I'll know who to bug! :)

You mean like 14 hours. Its one of the best rpgs ever because it has no filler.

Yeah its not particulary huge and that means little level grinding or waffly story. I seem to remember the only place that I needed to level grind was a swampy looking ocean type area.

for sure, no filler. i was turned off a bit at first but i grew to love it. when i really understood the 4-angled battle system i really started to get into it. i didn't find myself bored with it like i did with albert odyssey (and other standard fare turn-based rpgs)

don't forget to pet your dragon whenever possible at the campgrounds!

Wish all games were like that. Modern game design seems to DEMAND filler. This nonsense about bang for your buck. If I play a game that gets boring and tedious because it has been artificially lengthened and padded, I feel like I actually WASTED my money. A short game that provides a memorable experience that will stay with me for years to come, and is worth revisiting from time to time. THAT is getting your money's worth

Completely agree. That's the reason why I beat PDS three times over the years, and it equaled about 45 awesome hours and counting. Meanwhile I can play a game like FF8 to the end, and it felt like 30 of the 43 hours were just bullshit work. When the game ended, I was dissatisfied, and I felt like the whole thing was a waste of time, even though a few of those hours by themselves were fun.
