I had no idea that some stores threw out old cases and manuals (if they were ruined it makes more sense, but if they were perfectly fine than that fuddles my brain :| ) I also didn't know that they sometimes marked used games as new and sold them at full price. That's just deceptive in my book. Luckily when I go into Gamestop I'm a strictly "used" game buyer so that really doesn't affect me.

I DID know that they sent off their old gaming guides to be "destroyed" after a certain period of time. I found that out when I went to buy one last year and the guy kept trying to ring it up cause it kept showing him "$0.00". The other employee had to explain that the guide was one that they were supposed to ship back to be destroyed, because apparently there's some sort of an experation date on game guides at Gamestop :? .
Best Buy does this as well, it is a pull from the manufacturer

That does sound familiar. He probably mentioned that last year, but my brain was too busy trying to grasp the concept of spending all that time designing, printing, and shipping the guides just to have them destroyed a year later that it just didn't register. It just seems like such a waste.

I did not know that Gamestop throws out cases and manuals for games. That is fucking bullshit.

I am adding Gamestop to my boycott list today. I'm completely serious. I like video games too much to buy from Gamestop.
I'm store X we have 350sq feet of space for all our games. We have 900-2000 PS2 games, where will we put out cases for the under $5 games then?

Cases are only tossed for the worthless and ultra common of the commons.
Easy solution, just don't make generic cases for $5 and under ps2 games. That would seriously take up a lot less room. Another option, if you have more than two copies why do you you need another one on display? Two on the floor is enough. I have even seen some gamestops that leave access versions in cases in the drawers and sell that copy first.

This still doesn't explain why more and more are throwing away DS game cases, and price doesn't matter I saw Dragon Quest IX case thrown out.

On the pennied out Guides, they aren't sent back to anyone. The are scanned through the registers like a fake purchase then they are thrown away. They don't even try to discount them.

But this is common with books in general. Book stores will rip the cover off the book and throw them away if the don't sell after a time period. Thats why inside books they say if the cover is removed that this book was mark as unsold goods and that you have stolen goods were neither the author nor publisher earned money. Book stores at least try to clearance them first before they trash them.

The Best Buy I used to shop at always sold them for a penny - never saw free though.

Some companies have a policy where they can't give some thing away for free. Might be a law, I don't know.

I know best buy has some legal policy against letting employees take them for free after we count them out.
