I received a PS3 as a Christmas present, Yay! However, I found that the user manual was missing from the sealed box. I, of course, want a hardcopy manual. I've tried e-mailing SCEA and calling them and after many run arounds got the response that SCEA does not have these manuals and as such cannot send me one. They repeatedly refer me to the online PDF. I don't want a PDF, I want a nice clean, crisp paper document that was supposed to have been included with this $400 product.
I can appreciate the fact that SCEA doesn't have the manuals since they aren't manufactured here. What I fail to comprehend though is why they can't contact someone in manufacturing (China, Japan) and have them grab the appropriate manual, put it in an envelope and mail it to me. Too complicated?
Bottom line, they failed to include all the items in the package so isn't the burden on them to correct this issue to their customer's satisfation? If I was missing a cable or a controller I can't imagine it would be very difficult to get one from them. It says right on the lid flap of the box to call them and to not to return it to the retailer if there are any items that are damaged or missing, so.......
There is no hope for Sony if they can't do the simple things

Yep, this is total bull. I'd just get on LIVE chat (assuming they still have this service) with an agent, furnish them with your serial #, etc. and just just hound them until you get some answers.

Oh, the hounding has only just begun.
They also fail to try to explain why I cannot register my hardware on-line. I was able to register my ancient PS2 fat just recently and any and all of my software, but their magnificent system won't accept the registration of my console. I've asked that question numerous times and have yet to actually get an answer to the question. Something is screwy with this situation. System seems to work fine on-line and off.

I kinda see where Sony's coming from, but at the same time I agree that they should offer a replacement manual to you at some sort of cost rather than just saying no. Then again, who needs a manuel for a system these days? Hooking up a PS3 is kind of a no brainer.

When my wife bought a Sony Vaio Laptop, there were no install discs. The explanation was that I can burn the five install discs from the hard drive backup.
I paid for windows, dammit I wanted pressed original install discs! I had to battle customer service, finally demanding to speak to a manager. I finally received five pressed windows and Sony Laptop drivers discs in the mail.
Ask for the manager or corporate office number, may get results.

Cost? The dude paid for the manual already.Satoshi_Matrix wrote:I kinda see where Sony's coming from, but at the same time I agree that they should offer a replacement manual to you at some sort of cost rather than just saying no. You might have gotten one that was used and traded in with the original box and stuff, we get those in all the time at my store. It looks new but it sells for a used price which is great for families that need a cheaper system but still want it to look more presentable in a gift giving situation.
Whoever gifted it to you might have just stuck some plastic seal on it and bam, "new" PS3.
If the seal it had was the white Sony ribbon with the company logo all over it across the top end of the box then it's new.

Uh, I now have the receipt (which I mentioned above). It was purchased at full price, the outer box AND the inner box were sealed. The serial number of the machine is on the receipt too. The gift giver already has a PS3 fat (the backwards compatible version) so he wouldn't have had a need for another.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:You might have gotten one that was used and traded in with the original box and stuff, we get those in all the time at my store. Simple: Sony's manufacturing bunch simply forgot to include the manual. Point is, a manual was paid for but not received. They owe me a manual.
And while, yes, hooking it up and using it was easy, I still like manuals. I've already had a need for it too (had to use the PDF version to find my answer). I had configured it for HDMI output on my HDTV but when I moved it to a standard TV I wasn't getting video. I found in the manual how to reset it to standard output by holding the ON button down until it beeps and the on light flashes twice.
