Re: Heavy Rain 1GB+ Update..?!
I love how they still shove it down your throat even though you don't have PS Move nor plan on getting it. I had the same thing pop up for me the other day. Large updates like this should be optional, not mandatory. There should be something at the title or options screen for the update. I believe it was 1145 MB. My PS3 would have to be on the over 9 hours to download this useless to me update. Not to mention probably YLOD shortly after.ReddMcKnight wrote:Fear not. This update was just implementing PS Move controls. Everything's fine.Rurouni_Fencer wrote:While my buddy was borrowing my PS3, he got Heavy Rain about 4 months ago.. Last week I got it back from him, along with the games he bought for the system, (including Heavy Rain.) When I popped the disc in the other day, I went to go play and was greeted with the usual software update screen telling me to update before I can play.. I hit OK, only to see that the update is a whole-freakin' GB (and some change) HUGE!
Is this normal and/or legit? I remember when I first bought the system 9 months ago and updated for the first time to catch up on years-worth of firmware updates, and that didn't necessitate a friggin' hour's worth of a single file download!
Anybody else run into this, or am I facing some kind of unusual buggery??

Re: Heavy Rain 1GB+ Update..?!
My PS3 tried to ask me if I wanted to update to put waggle in my Heavy Rain. I just said no.
Heavy Rain one, Sony zero.
I love Heavy Rain though. It's still my top choice game for 2010.

Um dude, they are optional. You can just press circle and move on to your game. Except if you want to play online, but it's not like there's a game where you don't have to update to play online.corn619 wrote:] I love how they still shove it down your throat even though you don't have PS Move nor plan on getting it. While you may be able to skip it, having to do this every time I turn the game on is a pain. Having it as a free DL on the PS store or being able to update through game menus should have been the route to go with these large updates. Not forcing it down your throat upon every start up. While this update is optional, I've had many large updates being mandatory. One example, I think it was Motorstorm Pacific Rift. It had a huge mandatory update. I couldn't play online until I was forced to download this patch which would have taken like 4 to 5 hours. It just a total pain in the ass.ZeroAX wrote:Um dude, they are optional. Well, you could just not connect to PSN. It's not like you need to for offline games anyway.corn619 wrote: While you may be able to skip it, having to do this every time I turn the game on is a pain. I understand the constant messages being a hassle, but most of the time those patches are there to make the game better, so it makes sense for them to try and make you patch them.
And as I said, there is no online game that doesn't require patches, you can't really complain on that front.
Now on the Heavy Rain thing yeah it would have been good to only have the move support as a patch from PSN, but how many of the casual owners of Move would be able to find it then?

Sorry to interupt off topic, but i'm new to rackeyboy and am wondering where do you get those system icons under your post? I would love to attach one of the systems I have. And how do you attach them there?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Most of the time my 360 patches a game, its small and I was playing in a matter of minutes. My PS3 however, most of the time its a huge patch, taking hours. Thats my complaint, and a legit one at that I think. Now about the Heavy Rain patch being hard to find for casual players. I don't know, Heavy Rain doesn't exactly strike me a casual title. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe you were just joking?ZeroAX wrote:Well, you could just not connect to PSN. Re: Heavy Rain 1GB+ Update..?!
It is a retail game in the UK and is a retail 360 release worldwide, hence the size. That kind of size pretty much par for the course for PC games. I downloaded Darksiders the other day, game's about 15 GB.ReddMcKnight wrote:Do you REALLY think a 1 GB Update is bad? I downloaded a game off PSN called Record of Agarest War, and it was NINE FREAKING GIGABYTES! How's that for large?

I don't have a 360 so I don't know, though I do find it strange if PS3 games have bigger patches compared to their 360 versions.corn619 wrote:Most of the time my 360 patches a game, its small and I was playing in a matter of minutes. And Heavy Rain is a pretty mainstream title, at least in continental Europe where many "non-gamers", specially women, love murder mystery adventure games.
