PS3 remote play on your pc

Post by countcowden »

Cant find this anywhere on the forums here but if it is feel free to delete or move to another section.

Ive spent the last week installing network enabled equipment (NAS, Slingbox) as my fiancee is off to china to work and tv over there is terrible. During various checks on the internet during the installation of these items I stumbled upon Remote play for PS3 and the various methods for doing this.

Remote play for VIAO allows sony laptops to act like a PSP and control your PS3 through the remote play software. There is also a patch that allows the software to be used on any type of laptop. (Note you need firmware 3.30 or above for this on the PS3)

I have it working on a netbook acer aspire one. This means you can play certain games, stream movies, shows and music to your laptop using your ps3 via the internet or on your home network.

The files for this can be found here and its pretty neat as it basically turns your PS3 into a slingbox for ps3 media.

Click on the red download links and make sure you read the readme in the patch files.

I had some trouble with a missing DLL so I had to install direct X9 and then everything worked for me after that.

Sony also has some good pages on setting the PS3 up correctly for remote play.

If this works, that is very cool. Can't you play PS1 titles through remote play? I imagine the only drawback might be getting a good responsive controller.

So far Ive only used it for streaming tv shows and music but its supposed to work for ps1 gaming also.

Looks like xpadder might provide controller functionality for it on the pc.
