Fave Alternative games? TJ&E, Vib Ribbon, Rez etc...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Fave Alternative games? TJ&E, Vib Ribbon, Rez etc...

Post by 4ppleseed »

Hi guys,
What's your favorite alternative games?

You know those ones that just don't quite fit into a set genre. Some games like Toejam & Earl on the Megadrive, I look back upon and think WOW, how the hell did that work?? The vibe is just so unlike any other game; it's sorta like just having a walk around with a mate, just dicking about and exploring but the music and design is excellent - especially the way the levels are on top of each other.

Vib Ribbon is just beyond minimal is style. I can't believe how cool and simple this game looks. Same goes for Rez with it's crazy Music/Shooter genre mashup.

SOoooo... what's your fave ''altgame''. Does it have unique gameplay that still stands up today? Or a visual style all of it's own. I'd love to hear about it, as these types of game are the reason I love gaming so much.

Recently I've been way into audiosurf but you have to play it during beta weekend or reinstall the game every 3 songs.

Actually there is a hack to play the game offline, which is what I've been doing for the past week.

This game looks really looks so wacky! And probably quite difficult too after you get into it.

I think the Neverhood for PC is really unique. It's a dreamworks game that's all claymation, and it's soo hilarious and difficult too. Although the point and click interface isn't totally unique, the puzzles they throw at you are, and sometimes I had to map out the info on several pieces of paper to just solve the puzzle. Also, there is only one spot you can die, and it has a sign pointing to it telling you. You find these cartridges that tell you the story and it's really funny. The music is great too, it sounds like early Butthole Surfers but even more cracked out. I really can't say enough about it. One of my all time favorites.

Yep, I'm looking forward to this too! Locoroco also fits into the 'altgame' category. So, anymore original games that have cult followings for their quirky ways?

Zikes... this game looks amazing. I'd never heard of it before. The way the cut scene mix with the actual game play is great 8)

The NeverHood is FANTASTIC. Skullmonkeys for the PS1 is a sort-of sequel, though in a totally different genre.

Yeah I followed all the instructions that were on /v/ and got the offline pack from the 4chan's rapidshare archive but still when it asks for a username or password just typing in random crap doesn' work like it's suppose to so I just reinstall the game. I second the Neverhood as fantastic. That game defined my childhood.
