Ok, so my first game beaten of the year. This was a surprise, since I don't recall ever playing this one before. At any rate, I'm glad I didn't beat it in the arcade, because I wouldn't spend that many quarters really. But considering the PS2 port is set to free-play, I just treated the game as a playthrough. Sure I TRIED to not die -- but really I found the game pretty cheap. I mean it's not exactly Smash TV... but it's certainly designed to be a quarter-gobbler. But yeah it was fun. I much prefer y'know "space" shmups to the run-n-gun style, but this was a fun way to kill an hour.
Was that the version in the Capcom Classics Collection, Vol. 1?

1. Mercs (PS2)
2. Darkstalkers 3 (PS1)
3. House Of The Dead Overkill (Wii)

First game of the year I beat co-op! Me and my wife kicked this games ass over the course of three sessions. I'll let my wife do the talking on this one:

While the graphics and storyline are more appealing in Overkill than they are in the House of the Dead 2&3, the game isn't too hard to beat. I think tonight was only our third or fourth time playing and we were surprised it was already over. We have yet to beat HOTD 2 and we have spent countless hours teaming up, with Bud-Lights by our side, and still cannot get past the last boss. Although Overkill is easier to beat it is definitely worth playing. There is more character development, more creative zombies/creatures and some of the bosses are actually creepy. If you have a fear of clowns, there is one level that might give you nightmares. Also, I can't say I have ever seen such disturbingly fun images in a video game before :D. Once you beat Overkill, an uncut version is unlocked which has fewer continues, as well as deleted and extended scenes-gonna need a thirty-pack for that one.

1. Super Meat Boy

I'm talking about this game all the time lately, and I've finally beat Dr. Fetus in the Dark World yesterday. The ending was funny and cute, totally worth the effort, absolutely satisfying. I could've beaten the game earlier, it's just that it was so much fun going back and forth between levels, improving times and so forth. I still want to 100% the game (18 levels to go), so I'll probably be coming back to it. The blisters on my thumb, however, make me play other stuff every now and then, even if just for healing.

Ive been playing this game like crazy and am obsessed with getting everything. I beat the first world real quick, but spend days afterward getting A+'s and all of the bandages... do I really need to get all that stuff or can I just go straight through assuming I can ignore my want to collect everything?

1. Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions Xbox 360

22 hours of play, 100% complete!

I'm a big Spider-man fan anyway, but I really loved this game. 4 different worlds, lots of bosses, fun levels, a whole mess of alternate costumes (every Spider-man game should have that, no excuses) and an all around good time.

I'm not sure what to play next.

You can go through the game without A+s or bandages. You only need to beat 85 Dark World stages to unlock the Dark World Dr. Fetus. If you defeat him, you see the "real end". So, you only need 85 grade As in the Light World and to beat 85 Dark World stages (out of 125, it's not too bad).

You can absolutely ignore glitch zones, as they're difficult and don't really count toward your completion of the game (you get an achievement in the PC version for each stage, though).

You can ignore the bandages, since all stages are beatable with Meat Boy, but some stages are much, much easier with the unlocked characters. So, you might wanna get at least some of the bandages and complete some of the character warp zones.

Particularly, the double-jump characters, Ogmo and The Kid, are extremely useful. The Kid is much harder to unlock, and if you get the hang of Ogmo, he isn't really needed. He jumps higher and is faster, however, although his horizontal coverage is worse (bottom line, Ogmo can do pretty much anything The Kid, no matter what Youtube says).

Flywrench is very useful in some stages as well, not so much for his triple-jump (which isn't very maneuverable), but because he slides up walls and his hitbox is small.

Naija is my favorite character and her ability is awesome, specially if you're trying to get grade As (she flies forward and upward really fast). If you're playing the XBLA version, I know that Spelunky has a similar power, but his propels him only forward, so it's more limited.

I've been loving to play as Runman lately, but he is only useful for getting grade As.

To sum up, no, you don't really need to complete everything in the game, and getting to the end is not as nightmarish as getting grade As in some stages (you won't really want to wait to 100% chapter 5 before going to The End. It's sheer craziness).

1. Deja Vu
2. Lunar Legend
3. Skies of Arcadia Legends(new)

Well it took me a year to beat it but I am glad I finally did. I wish Sega still made games like this.
Edit: This reminds me, I need to get a dreamcast.

For these arcade games, this is how I considered them "beaten":
Centipede, Dig Dug, Frogger: two levels beaten
Donkey Kong Jr.: save Donkey Kong
Galaga, Galaga '88: get through the first "Challenging Stage"
NBA Jam: win a game
Pac-Man: get to the first "cut-scene" (two levels)
Smash TV: get through the game (with continues)

The Galloping Ghost Arcade is an awesome place. Hopefully I'll be getting a review of the place up soon. 8)

There were some others that I didn't consider beaten that I could have, including Tempest (I beat three levels, but there were a lot more) and Time Crisis (I managed to beat one level with multiple continues).

Now who's in the lead? :P
First, it's not a competition and any "bragging" about numbers in this thread should be strictly discouraged.

Second, playing one game of something (NBA Jam) or a few levels does not mean an arcade game is beaten by almost any standard. I know that we've said you can determine what "beaten" is for yourself, but given the tone of your post it seems like you are trying to turn this into something that it isn't meant to be.

Glad you had fun at the arcade :)

This is not a competition and people should be beating games because they want to, not because I'm being a douche. :P

I have my reasoning. For NBA Jam, for instance, if I were playing a home version of it, then I would attempt to beat every single team before calling it beaten. I don't really have the capability of doing that for the arcade version.

With some of the other ones, I figured if they continuously loop or end in a zillion levels (I'm looking at you, Pac-Man and Dig Dug), then beating a few of what amounts to looped levels I'd consider to be "completing the main experience".

Thank you. The place is great and I'll be working on a review in my free time tomorrow. Well, between that and Riviera. 8)
