Playstation Network Downloadables can be used 5 times...

Post by Breetai »

As most of us with PS3s and PSPs know, Sony tells us that we can only use are downloadables on five systems.

Does anyone know if this is 5 PS3s AND 5 PSPs, or just 5 PS3s/PSPs COMBINED?

I've gone through three Playstation 3s (one broken, one JPN, one US...) and have one PSP. For those PS1 downloadables that I've downloaded onto all three PS3 sytems and the PSP, does that mean I've used them 4/5 times already? That REALLY sucks, if it does...

It's better then freakin' Nintendo and them only letting you use their downloadables on only one Wii, but still... I hate the fact that I have PAID for this stuff and it is all limited use. I never did bother with Nintendo's VC much for that reason. I just stuck to emulation on the Wii because of that. Not that I don't mind buying SMB3 again for $5... but when it's limited to one console and I have to send the thing in to Nintendo if I want to transfer it to a different Wii, screw that. I guess I just didn't think I would use up the 5 uses that Sony allows so quickly. Back to emulation, I guess.

Is there any work around being able to download onto five consoles only (is that 5 PS3 and PSPs, or combined?), or is that really it?

It does but you can revoke licences. I'm sure you can do it through Account Management. If not Sony has to comply via customer service anyway. I'm sure I've done it before...

My friend told me about this. No wonder everybody i know has the mw2 dlcs. Can't you just add their account as a new user on your console, access the psn store, go to downloads, and get already purchased things on your ps3?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking I might have to do. Canada customer support, UK customer support and JPN customer support... :?

I have four used up, so IF my new PS3 goes I still am okay for one more. I'm not in dire straights yet. :D Still, might be best to free up a few consoles of my PSN stuff.

I'm not sure you understood why the issue here is. I'm talking about PSN downloadables on my own PS3s (plural) and PSP.

Yeah, I'm saying that basically you can purchase something on psn and be able to put it on up to five different ps3s/psps (whether they're all yours or you and four other peoples systems) so it's possible to buy something on psn, then use your account on your friends ps3 (by making a new user, then signing in to psn) then go to "already purchased items" and download it again onto your friends console so they can get it for free basically. That's all I'm saying. Im not sure this will work on ps3s from other countries/regions.

It will work on PS3s from different regions. As I've said here, I've had both a JPN and a US PS3 with the same downloadables on it.

You are aware that sharing downloadables with friends breaks the Terms of Service that was agreed to when you signed on to PSN, right? Not that you'd get caught, but you could be outright banned from PSN for doing that. Also, doing that uses up one of the 5 (or more, if that 'friend' passes the game on to someone else) consoles you are allowed to download a specific game to... which is exactly what I am trying to avoid with this thread and also exactly the reason I was questioning whether you understood the intention of this thread.

For the record, I'm not at all interested in PSN game sharing.

Anyway, it seems that the answer to my inquiry is that games can be "unregistered" from one of more of the five specific PS3s/PSPs that you downloaded to. So, if you were to replace one of the first five consoles with a sixth, you can "unregister" the PSN games from a previous console either manually or by calling Sony Customer Support.

Good to know!

Im against it as well, I was just curious if it was possible cause I know people who claim it works. Thats cool about unregistering a system, but my question is why do you have a US and Japanese ps3?

I would never download games on PSN for that reason. Maybe the exclusives, but I would give it much more thought than to buying games on XBLA, since there the games are tied to your account.
