Discounting all mainstream music is just as silly as discounting all mainstream movies, games, literature, etc. Sure, much of it might not be very good from a technical or artistic standpoint, but pop music is its own kind of art form and can be appreciated as such. Much of what I listen to hasn't ever had regular radio play, but that doesn't mean it is somehow "above" music that has.

I have no interest in Bieber's music, but I can respect his ability to game the system and surround himself with the right people so as to succeed where other wanna-be hearthrob singers have failed. Kudos to him, I say.
