Linux returns to PS3. Yes, that's both fat & slim models.

If that's true, that would be great news.

Their news is barely 'news', hell I thought the whole point of 'news' was that it was 'new'. They just copy everything from other sites/blogs and basically just constantly shit on the little guys doing the actual work.
Let's just clarify one thing. The hack does not allow LV2 access. There are no hardware poke/peeks available for it. This is what makes loading from HDD0 and USB00xx possible. Even Geohot's current hack for 3.55 which allows unsigned homebrew pkgs to launch doesn't allow LV2 poke/peek so piracy is not possible with that hack. So to sum up, piracy is only possible on 3.41 currently. With the same jailbreak that was patched with 3.50. Typical sensationalist bullshit from IGN as always.
So, piracy will never be possible with this hack?
It will and it can be. Should somebody with the skill to put it in there does. At the moment, with the tools that are out there, and with the hacks made so far. Piracy isn't possible. Yet. However, anything is possible. What I don't think people are grasping with this, is it's not an exploit. The system is completely hundred percent open for those that wish to modify it. There is no security. Consider the security on the system switched off for the time being. However, you still need the skill to program for the damn thing. Which isn't something just anybody possesses. So we're stuck with the tools that the devs give us. If the tools given to us by the devs don't enable piracy then there will be no piracy.

Kind of weird to read on IGN about the PS3 being gaming's most secure console. It's true, sure. Ironically, it hasn't helped it being more successful than the competition.

Wii was probably the most wide open console and it didn't damper it any against the competition.. Also the Xbox still beat out the GC last generation even though that was hacked to pieces as well..

Point is if a console is hackable, It really doesn't effect sales.. On the hardware end anyways..

HA! I just had a funny thought. Wouldn't it be hilarious (and awesome) if someone were able to create a Wii emulator (like Dolphin) for the PS3 that made all Wii games playable with the PS Move controllers!?

I just want all the emulators that the oXbox has on the PS3.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Already possible. You just need a minimus AVR or something similar (teensy, arduino, hell even a TI84 or an iPhone 2G can do it) and firmware version 3.41. The only emulator missing is an N64 emulator, but N64 emulation on the Xbox wasn't exactly anything to shout about.
Don't worry it will come. It will just take the devs a short while to get their heads round signing retail packages. I've tried to take source code and make pkg (under linux) and then sign it but it doesn't quite work like that for some reason. There's something missing and no matter how much I read the documentation I can't figure it out. I can make pkgs from source for 3.41 any day of the week but getting them signed properly is tricky.
